Round 1 – Gameplay

The first round is all about the gameplay! Both Survivor and Fallen Order have something unique to bring to the table regarding fighting style or combat challenges. Of course, Fallen Order, as the first game in the series, is much less polished, but it has the upper hand in being innovative and fresh.

Fallen Order

Fallen Order presents us with the best Jedi abilities we've seen in the Star Wars franchise. All the beloved Jedi tricks like super jump, force push, and more are included, reminiscent of the Jedi Knight series. Playing as Cal Kestis, players finally get to feel like a young Jedi protagonist navigating a harsh world where Jedi are persecuted. The last game you had so much freedom and complexity as a Force-sensitive character was probably the first The Force Unleashed game. The gameplay is full of cinematic sequences, and the adrenaline is pumping high. Respawn Entertainment’s classic is definitely something to look forward to!

Survivor

Survivor takes most of the gameplay ideas from the predecessor, with some improvements, of course. For example, Cal’s lightsaber has five different types that you can use in the game, there are lightsaber stances you can access now, and the game is extremely well produced when it comes to battle itself.

Force elements, fighting, and platforming elements are much greater in the sequel than in the original game. Especially when it comes to parkour elements of Cal, Respawn Entertainment made sure that the main character moves flawlessly among the world and can jump, slide, and run in a much more natural yet controlled way than we have seen in the Fallen Order.

Conclusion

As you can see, both titles brought something to the narrative. The great concepts from the Fallen Order were even further developed in the Survivor game. The latter one is definitely more of a sandbox that provides much more freedom in gameplay, but the more linear storytelling from the first game in the series also looks and feels good. More options is always better, but we cannot underestimate the groundwork that the Fallen Order has made for the Survivor to grow!

Round 2 – Force Usage

Next up we have the use of force in both games. As you all know, the Force is one of the most fun elements in all Star Wars-related games, and it is no different here. Of course, we will not examine every power you get in the game, but we’ll focus on the general overview of the situation.

Fallen Order

In Fallen Order, the Force is portrayed as a powerful tool that gives the player even more possibilities to enhance their natural abilities. Using force, you can push, pull, slow down time, manipulate others, and even tame animals. Additionally, with a lightsaber, you can execute some crazy-powerful fighting sequences and impressive combos. The Force is the key in the game, and the developers lead you through every power to get you acquainted with it.

Survivor

In Survivor, you not only get all the abilities from the previous game (because it’s not like you’ve forgotten them, right?), but you get to add new skills on top of them. While the first game allowed you to utilize three branches to develop your skills, in Survivor, you get nine of them, with multiple Force powers and lightsaber stances, each with an individual tree to go through. You can create your very own playstyle with ease!

Conclusion

Both games are excelling when it comes to Force usage. From the simple yet satisfying gameplay in The Fallen Order to a complex and developed version in Survivor, we get to see not only one way of play but multiple different playstyles. We are optimistic that with this approach, you will be able to develop your very own version of Cal.

Round 3 – Graphics

In both Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the developers have placed a significant emphasis on graphics, given the franchise's high standards. Both titles offer stunning visual experiences, capturing the essence of the Star Wars universe.

Fallen Order

Starting with Fallen Order, we have a greatly detailed world with a wide range of environments, cities, and alien landscapes, each one more interesting than the other.

The first game in the franchise showed us that the fantastic world of Star Wars does not have to look terrible or be restricted. Fallen Order gave us a rich and living universe full of potential that we cannot underestimate the importance of. The characters are fantastically detailed, and Cal’s facial expressions are one of the more interesting in what we’ve seen in recent years. A job well done!

Survivor

Survivor, on the other hand, had some time to develop the graphics, and we can safely say that it’s one of the best-looking games at the moment. The faces of the characters are as close to realism as it gets, with detailed expressions and even better movement. The world is even more specific than in the Fallen Order, and experiencing similar places but with even greater graphics is something that is worth getting the new game for sure.

Conclusion

Both games offer fantastic experiences, but one notable improvement in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is its enhanced map system. Navigating the game's intricate corridors and expansive environments is much smoother and clearer, alleviating the frustration that some players experienced with the previous game's map system. This enhancement contributes to a more immersive and enjoyable gameplay experience overall.

Round 4 – Plot

So, let’s talk about what made people fall in love with this game once more (considering how much hate the new trilogy got) – the plot. In both games, we follow Cal Kestis, a young Jedi who somehow managed to survive Order 66 and is now seeking to, you know, get Jedi back together once more and fight the power! Let’s see what each game brought to the table in that regard.

Fallen Order

As we have mentioned, you are Cal Kestis, who is working on what could be an oil field but in space. He earns little to nothing and is leading a pretty terrible life considering the circumstance of him being, you know, a Jedi. Nevertheless, as we know from the movies, the Force is attracting Force, so inevitably, he meets a Sith that stands in his way.

In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, when Cal finally reveals he's a Jedi and joins the Rebellion to fight the Empire, things really get interesting. Cal's a likable guy, always trying to do the right thing. Along the way, he learns what it means to be a Jedi and figures out his place in the big picture. It's this character growth that keeps you hooked on his journey.

Survivor

In the second game, you're the survivor, but it's not going to be a walk in the park this time. Guess who shows up? Yep, Darth Vader himself, along with a couple of other Siths out to make your life miserable. Set five years after the first game, the story is packed with cinematics, moral dilemmas, and feels like a pivotal moment in the series. It's like we're watching a trilogy unfold, and we can't wait to see how it all ends.

Conclusion

Both titles excel at delivering interesting plots to the audience, and we are all in for it! The first game set the groundwork for what was supposed to happen in the second one.

The third one that just needs to happen will be a fine conclusion to the story that, in our opinion, is a lot better than what we are used to seeing in the cinemas. Cal is a lovable character, and we cannot see anyone complaining about him being the leading boy.

Round 5 – Lightsaber Fights

And finally, we have what we all were waiting for when it comes to Star Wars gameplay – lightsaber fights. In this game, it’s all about doing flips and kicks and having the right stance. It’s one of the most developed fighting systems of all Star Wars games! Even the old-and-gold Jedi Academy capture the flag didn’t have so many different ways of using a lightsaber. Of course, Knights of the Old Republic is a different animal, but within the normal games – this is where the fun starts!

Fallen Order

The first game of the series showed us that lightsaber battles can and should be epic. It was not only used to let you have fun in the game. The lightsaber battles were crucial for the development of Cal and a great way of portraying how cool it is to utilize such a weapon! The cinematics of the fights are great, and the ability to use different stances and lightsabers allows you to create your very own way of fighting. That, combined with the Force abilities, is allowing players to actually feel like a Jedi!

Survivor

As we have mentioned time and time before in this article – the Survivor does all of it and more! There are plenty of basic mechanics that came from the Fallen Order, but also – a couple of improvements that we did not see coming, really. For starters, in this game, you have access to five different stances, each one with different ways of playing. You can either opt for the single or double blade. The dual-wield blade attack known from the first game actually got its own stance and was expanded into a playstyle.

Additionally, you also get to use the Kyle Ren-kind of cross-guard lightsaber that introduces new gameplay mechanics with quick-time actions that will help you in blocking and parrying attacks. Even more – you get to experience the lightsaber/blaster combo as well, which can be a unique approach to the Star Wars gameplay as a whole. We were not fans of this idea, but we have seen people enjoying it, so there is a market for this kind of Star Wars experience.

Conclusion

Both games have done a really good job when it comes to portraying how it would actually feel to wield a lightsaber and fight against the evil Sith lords! Not only does it feel immersive and fun, but it also gives you this kind of ecstatic feeling that you are actually experiencing something plot-related when using a lightsaber.

The fighting extends into the plot, the world, and the characters themselves – it’s all an interconnected world that we all learned to love from the films and series. This kind of approach really shows you what it actually means to be one with the Force. And we are all for it!

Jedi Survivor vs Fallen Order – Conclusion

Thank you so much for checking out this article! We hope that you enjoyed this journey through space with us. As you can see, both games are exceeding our expectations and we are definitely looking forward to the third installment. Our survivor got the facial hair in the third game, so you can expect some long hair for sure in the last game in the trilogy. Also – some even better gameplay and even more enemies to slash with new stances. If you like Star Wars – you will enjoy those games for sure. If you like action games – you will have a great time as well. And if you don’t like anything, you will don’t like anything, what can we say? Check out our great offers. That’s one thing! See you in the next one!
