Games Like Warframe – Your Next Favorite Space Fighting Title!

Games Like Warframe – Your Next Favorite Space Fighting Title!

In 2013, Warframe was the talk of the town, as they say. Visceral combat, some of the most advanced graphics to date, and many different playstyles – there could not be any game closer to the perfect title than this one. But, some time has passed, and people started to wonder – what if other games are just as good as this one that we were unaware of?

Well, fear not – we have a treat for you! In this article, we will review games like Warframe for all of you Warframe enthusiasts who, after ten years, decided to check out if some other titles can be just as engaging as this exo-suit-based, slasher combat bonanza!

And here’s the icing on the cake: all the games discussed below are available on RoyalCDKeys at unbeatable prices!

What Is Warframe?

  • Release Date: March 2013

  • Developer: Digital Extremes

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

  • Meta Score: 86/100

Let’s start with the obvious choice for those who haven’t heard about Warframe. When it comes to TPS games, you just can’t get much better than this one. The game is simple but challenging to master, with dozens of possibilities for fighters worldwide!

Here, you play as one of the Tenno, a race of ancient warriors who went to sleep eons ago. After waking up, it turns out that all the factions in the Origin System are fighting with each other. To stop the war, Tenno get into their Warframes and start cleaning the universe, trying to stop the everlasting conflict.

The best thing about this title is that it’s a free-to-play game that does not feel like any of the other free games you can find in a dollar store or something. Multiple games tried to copy this scheme with little to no luck, as the play style and deep RPG systems that are the core of the Warframe concept are just too hard to replicate for shooter games.

When it comes to gameplay, it varies a lot, depending on what you are trying to accomplish. You have multiple Warframes to choose and play, so the gameplay mixes traditional ideas with diverse possibilities to explore. You have Warframes that can radiate energy, up their speed, even better slashing, etc. There’s a lot of it and regular updates to the content, so you can be sure you can save humanity in many different ways.

Additionally, the looting and crafting aspect of this title is also pretty interesting, so for all the looters/shooters enthusiasts – this game is a safe bet in that department as well. So, without further ado, let’s dive into other games like Warframe for you to enjoy!

Monster Hunter: Rise

  • Release Date: Nintendo Switch March 2021, Windows January 2022, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S January 2023

  • Developer: Capcom

  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch

  • Meta Score: 88/100

First up on our list is Monster Hunter: Rise, the natural successor to the gritty and dystopian Warframe. A happy and colorful title full of monster-killing! The concept is pretty simple: you go on a hunt, you kill enemies, you come back from the search, craft new weapons from the monsters’ remains, and go out some more.

It’s a great game, and you can play it with a friend, so it’s a no-brainer for games like Warframe. It also has advanced crafting elements, upgrading your weapons, armor, and even your friendly dog and cat companion.

Similarly to Warframe, here you also can fight with dozens of different and advanced weaponry, from axes through Bowes, ending with something that changes into many other weapons if necessary. Regarding games like Warframe – this is the lighter version of the slashing world.

NieR Automata

  • Release Date: February 2017

  • Developer: PlatinumGames

  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

  • Meta Score: 90/100

And we really cannot say the same about the second game on our list – NieR Automata. It’s a dystopian world of war crimes, aliens, and even you – 2B, the high-heels-wearing replicant android that goes all over the world of NieR fighting enemies and doing it with style! It has everything that a good RPG title should have these days. Intense action-based combat with many weapons to choose from, the deep and thought-provoking plot about what it means to be a human, how we can get that sci-fi world to function correctly, and some outstanding RPG elements to fully immerse yourself in it.

It’s original, engaging, and just that good of a game in the end. If you want to find something similar to the beautiful world of Warframe – you should not look further than this title. It has everything that the game in the title has and more! It has this futuristic, sci-fi plot, an acrobatic style of fighting with lots of slashing and shooting, and similar visuals, that all Warframe players would enjoy. But it’s not an online game, so you can enjoy this plot only by yourself or with a friend who will sit in the corner crying about the terrible situation you all got yourself into.

Final Fantasy XV

  • Release Date: November 2016

  • Developer: Square Enix Business Division 2

  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Google Stadia

  • Meta Score: 85/100

Next, when it comes to similar games to Warframe, we cannot skip the Final Fantasy series. And to choose the best and most slashy of all, Final Fantasy XV is here. Playing as Prince Noctis of the Eos realm, you try to return the Lucis throne to your family.

First of all, the game is a living and breathing world, not only because of all the game-based elements but also – of all the wonderful people from the Final Fantasy community. You get to experience not only the game itself but the fantastic people who enjoy this game as well. With four characters always active during the fights, you can imagine that doing it with friends or people online will be much better in the long run.

Regarding fighting, it’s not essentially like Warframe, but you can quickly see similarities between those games. For starters, in this futuristic slasher, you can slash your opponents with giant swords and do more advanced stuff. This game's fighting system is called the “Active Cross Battle.” You can use different commands for your comrades to optimize the fighting and get the best results. There is more strategizing here than in Warframe, but as the game gets faster and faster, the lines are blurred, and there are only enemies in front of you.

Destiny 2

  • Release Date: September 2017

  • Developer: Bungie

  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia

  • Meta Score: 87/100

Next up, we have the game that is probably the closest to what could be the Warframe sequel –  Destiny 2. It has everything you would expect from how the Warframe could develop, with several features added as a bonus. Unique monsters – check. Distant planet as a headquarters with many ones to choose from – check. Visceral slashing with giant swords through hordes of enemies – check!

Destiny 2 is something that Warframe fans will enjoy, as it gives them new challenges in a similar fashion. You are a Guardian based in what is called the Last City. Humanity is still alive, but you need to fight back. So, you need to fight off the enemy who is trying to put an end to the sun itself. Become a legend and bring back the order to the world!

It’s pretty much the same gameplay as you have known from Warframe, with some additions. For starters, you have classes here that you can choose: a Titan, Warlock, or Hunter. Titan is a Tank, Hunter is a DPS, and Warlocks are mages. Of course, it gets blurry with dozens of enemies attacking you at once, but it’s pretty much the gist of it.

If you liked Warframe, you will like Destiny 2; that’s just a fact. It’s not a game similar to Warframe; it’s what Warframe could become if given the chance.

Borderlands 3

  • Release Date: September 2019

  • Developer(s): Gearbox Software

  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, macOS, Stadia, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5

  • Meta Score: 91

Next, we have the looter-shooter for the masses (as Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a bit too much, well, out there) – Borderlands 3. Especially this title, as the previous ones (including the Pre-Sequel), are more on the single planet of Pandora kind-of situation. Here, you experience the Borderlands universe, meeting all the class acts from the previous games and even some new contestants.

Everything stays the same regarding the craziness of it all; the only difference is that this First Person Shooter gets even weirder. The plot follows the beating of Handsome Jack, while we have the other problem on our hands – Calypso Twins, who try to conquer the galaxy.

Regarding similarities to Warframe, it’s a fast-paced action game with lots of shooting giant guns, some additional slashing elements for some classes, and lots and lots of loot to go through. You can create a team with friends in the multiplayer mode or go solo; it’s all up to you.

The whole series is full of fun, light-hearted elements that may be a bit different compared to the features found in the Warframe universe, but still exciting and full of potential. It's not as severe as the game in the title, but still – it's a beautiful experience to have. And trust us, there is no single person who tried Borderlands and felt – well, that’s definitely not something for me.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

  • Release Date: March 2019

  • Developer(s): Massive Entertainment

  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, Stadia

  • Meta Score: 84

There may not be a lost planet in this one, but there are plenty of lost souls for you to help out. We are talking, of course, about The Division 2, one of the most fun multiplayer games that ever appeared in the world of gaming.

What is it all about? Well, there was a viral infection (no, not that one) that changed the whole world. People died all over the place, but there was one group of people who decided to stop the riots and take control of the world with no rules. You are one of those brave people who decided to change the world and create a better future for all of us.

When it comes to comparisons to Warframe, you have a pretty similar vibe to the whole thing, only with minor differences. Instead of slashing, you are shooting. Instead of going to different planets, you go to different zones on Earth. And, to be honest, it’s pretty much it. You have the PvP and PvE elements, RPG, looting, and lots and lots of fighting.

The Division is also a third-person action game that offers co-op possibilities with other players. Additionally, you get to choose one of the three classes: a sharpshooter, survivalist, or demolitionist. Depending on your playstyle, you will be able to choose what suits you the best.

The PvP element is mostly in the endgame called the Dark Zones. Those are some of the most entertaining but extremely high-risk missions with great rewards and different Factions of enemies. Here, you can evolve your character the fastest and with the greatest amount of fun possible! So, grab your gear and start playing right now, as this third-person shooter will definitely change how you see things!

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

  • Release Date: November 2007, May 2021 (Legendary Edition)

  • Developer: BioWare, Edge of Reality, Demiurge Studios.Straight Right

  • Platforms: Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, iOS, PlayStation 3, Android, Windows Phone, Wii U, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

  • Meta Score: 91/100

And finally, we have the one, the only, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. It’s the latest and improved version of the game, where you can finally get to understand the hype around this game from so many years ago. Here, you once more get to become Commander Shepard and try to save the world once more from the potential destruction.

Although it is a single-player game, it has a lot of similarities with Warframe. For starters, you get to experience many different planets; there is this giant conflict over your head that is causing you to make some big changes in this open world, and, essentially, Warframe is the first descendant of the Mass Effect games that created hype for this kind of titles, so it’s a must to play if you like the Warframe world.

In this Legendary Edition, you will not only get to experience the classic adventure but also the 40 DLC for this game and the remastered textures to the Ultra HD 4K version.

In the end, Mass Effect is the OG RPG that everyone played at one point. It has one of the most engaging plots in this space-opera genre, lots of skills to unlock and weapons to find, the cover-and-shoot system that got popularized by Gears of War, and just a fantastic world full of things to do.

It’s no secret that Commander Shepard is a heartbreaker for many people or aliens all over the galaxy, so if it’s something you may be interested in, then, well, it’s interesting! With the new version, you get to experience the game from a completely different perspective, with new customization options and graphics. And, you get to experience the whole Mass Effect trilogy, from the first game that changed the world to the, well, let’s not spoil it for you, shall we? There may be some lost ark hidden that you may not be aware of!
