Games Like New World – Find New Places to Conquer!
What Is New World?
Release Date: September 2021
Developer: Amazon Games Studios
Platforms: Microsoft Windows
Meta Score: 70/100
Starting with – New World! If you haven’t tried it, it’s a fantastic world, full of expiration, set on a fictional, supernatural island called Aeternum. With some great story and RPG fantasy we all love and cherish, it quickly became an internet sensation, gathering thousands of fans worldwide.
So, what’s it all about? Well, plenty of people wanted to find treasures in many New Worlds. Historically, they went to the Americas, India, Africa, etc. But, in this timeline, many explorers came to the Atlantic Ocean and found Aeternum island. It’s a vibrant world where anything can happen—reality, where everything is possible.
The main goal of this game is to gather resources and face other players and monsters you will encounter on the map. You can either travel through these lands on foot or use Shrines to teleport between the most critical parts of the world. So, similar to Guild Wars, for example.
You can either play solo or join one of the three factions. There are Marauders, Syndicate, and Covenant, each offering different quests and benefits. You can create groups of up to five members to complete quests together or do it the old-school-Runescape-style by just going solo everywhere. It’s up to you.
There are plenty of things to do in the New World, from gathering materials like wood or animal skins, exploring the world, and fighting monsters – it’s a lot! The gameplay is pretty straightforward; it’s a fast-paced TPP action with no auto-locked targeting, so you must brace yourself for some excellent targeting if you want to live.
The AI is pretty advanced, and some tactics to beat them will surely be necessary. You must do some counters to their strengths, dodge, retreat, and be stealthy – there are many ways to exterminate your enemies. And, you have lots of weapons to choose from — hammers, bows, staffs, muskets, spears – whatever floats your boat, this game will let you use.
Additionally, when it comes to RPG elements, you level up by adding personal attribute skills to the three categories” crafting, refining, and gathering. Depending on your playstyle, you can choose where to invest your points to be the menace of the forest!
Monster Hunter: Rise
Release Date: Nintendo Switch March 2021, Windows January 2022, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S January 2023
Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch
Meta Score: 88/100
Next up on our list is Monster Hunter: Rise! It’s one of the more exciting games here, as it allows you to craft your weapons, gather resources from the fantastical islands, and kill giant monsters solo or with friends!
The plot of this game is, well, not that complicated. You land on a fictional land, where you find yourself in a tough spot as the great big evil is about to commence. The only way to stop them is to…kill lots of monsters and make weapons out of them. And that’s pretty much it. There is not much extensive lore that you can get into. And, just like in New World, there’s a lot of crafting, killing creatures, and some good RPG fun!
Nevertheless, let’s focus on what’s essential – hunting monsters. Creatures themselves have some of the most beautiful graphics regarding monster design. The gameplay is pretty simple. You need to find a monster, kill or trap it (you will get more resources), and create weapons and armor from the resources gathered. But it’s much more than that. You need to craft items to kill even more giant monsters. So, you need to strategize, as you will not get unlimited resources. If you have a strong fire monster to take care of, try finding a water-based weapon.
And – there’s a lot to choose from. You have basics, like a sword and shield, but also – an axe that turns into both of those, a giant sword that you can barely hold – you will find your perfect one, we are sure about that! So, if you are up for some monster hunting – check this one out. You will not be disappointed, that’s for sure! And you can even play it in a co-op mode! What else can you want from life?!
The Elder Scrolls Online
Release Date: April 2014 (PC), June 2015 (PS4, XONE), June 2021 (PS5, Series X/S)
Developer: ZeniMax Online Studios
Platforms: PC, PS4, XONE, Xbox Series X/S, PS5
Metascore: 71
Another great MMORPG game on our list is Elder Scrolls Online. Skyrim is still waiting for the next significant addition to the franchise, but what we can do in the meantime is to play some good old Elder Scrolls Online. It has a growing universe with all the add-ons. You can feel the danger of a hero in the thrilling adventures over the Elder Scrolls world, and additionally, if you seek some mystery to solve – you will find it here as well!
Elder Scrolls Online is an excellent RPG that can bring out the best memories from what inspired the success of the other Bethesda Games. You have lots of crafting buildings; you can hunt, use swords and shields, magic, and stealth to get your enemies – you can choose what kind of champions you prefer to be. Similarly to the New World, it’s a big MMORPG, where you develop your character, gain new abilities, and try to pave your path in this fantasy world.
It can get quite competitive, as most games do. Still, the most significant advantage is that the world is so vast, full of dragons, side activities, and interesting characters, that it can be a long journey for everyone involved. Getting on a mission is exciting, even if you played many similar ones in the past. The sheer amount of Skyrim/Oblivion nostalgia can get you to open up this title once more to get immersed in this fantastic world!
ARK: Survival Evolved
Release Date: August 2017 (PC, PS4, XONE), November 2017 (Switch)
Developer: Studio Wildcard
Platforms: PC, PS4, XONE, Switch
Metascore: 70
And now, we have the ARK: Survival Evolved for something completely different. It’s one of the funniest ideas in the history of modern gaming. The strategy was this – what if we changed the creation of civilization, and instead of letting dinosaurs die, we would let them live and have humans driving those giant monsters all over the world, fighting each other? And someone said – that’s a great idea, but let’s make an MMORPG game out of it. And – it came out insanely good! It’s similar to New World in a way that you are trying to survive in a new world (pun still intended), create your path forward, and try to become the best of them all!
There is a vast and open world to explore, with lots of secrets, dinosaurs, and advanced futuristic technology for you to utilize to squash your enemies. The basic concept of this game is basically to survive. Every night is a danger and excitement you get when you defend your base for hours straight – that cannot be underestimated.
And, it's the future, so you can expect dozens of futuristic weaponry, advancement to the dinosaurs you were able to tame, and just having a good time looking for customizables. ARK has a vibrant community, full of people willing to help you out for your first time, and even though the game was released some time ago, people are still playing it to this day. But – there’s some territory remaining to conquer, so if you want to find similar games to New World, this is definitely up on this list!
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning
Release Date: 2020
Developer: Kaiko
Platforms: PC, Switch, XONE, Playstation 4
Meta Score: 72
The next fantasy RPG on our list is Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. It is an RPG worth checking if you are a fan of Lord of the Rings, New World, and all the other fantasy RPG games you have played in your lifetime. This one has all the most important elements of those, plus – some more!
You are the Fateless One, awakened by a scientist's experimentation in Well of Souls! You don’t know your identity, so it’s up to you how you will craft your destiny and become the hero who stops the evil Tuatha Deohn!
The gameplay is much like what you could have experienced in the New World games. There are four races you can choose at the start. You can become the Almain, Civilized Humans, the Dokkalfar Dark Elves, the Ljosalfar Light Elves, and the Varani Nomadic Humans.
You can choose three classes for each of those races – Fighter, Rogue, and Mage. But, it does not limit your potential to anyone; you can freely become a fighting-for-freedom mage or mage-interested rogue. So – choose wisely and become the hero this world needs! Or just want to get gold so that they could improve their gear. Whatever floats your boat!
Black Desert Online
Release Date: December 2014
Developer: Pearl Abyss
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Meta Score: 75
Next, one of the biggest contenders for the New World when it comes to the MMORPG market, Black Desert Online! It’s an RPG fantasy game in a fictional world where two nations – the Republic of Calpheon and the Kingdom of Valencia are fighting against each other to conquer their neighbor and become the biggest kingdom!
With your little help, you can choose your side at the Calpheon or Valencia’s and rule as a noble! Calpheon is more materialistic-based, so you can experience rough fighting out there, while Valencia, like all Spanish cities, is much more cultured and spiritual.
But – is it a fun experience? Well, yes. There are dozens of thousands of players online, and, similarly to the New World games, it’s not your typical action-locked kind of game. It requires skill and thoughtfulness that not that many people are able to comprehend.
Like New World, it’s a TPP game where you can utilize your weapons for some advanced combos with blocking, dodging, and magic. The combat system feels immersive and fun, so you will get acquainted with it in no time. As usual in those games, you also have the gathering aspect, with fishing and even farming! But what makes this game different are the raids. And those are spectacular. If you have never sieged a castle in Black Desert, you don’t know what fun is!
Final Fantasy XIV
Release Date: September 2010
Developer: Square Enix
Platforms: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, macOS, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Windows
Meta Score: 86
And finally (pun intended), we have Final Fantasy XIV. It’s a game that changes lives, so watch out for this one. If you have ever played those games before, you know what to expect, more or less. The adventure awaits you in the Eorzea, where fate lasts on your shoulders.
So, what’s it all about? Well, you live in Eorzea, the land of heroes and Gods. To control it and conquer its neighbor, the Garlean Empire started a massive war campaign at the southern border. What is their great idea for accomplishing that task? Well, what about bringing THE LITERAL MOON from the heavens to strike your enemies? That seems like a great plan!
Unfortunately, moons were not unpopulated, so a great terror called Bahamut was released and spread chaos and evil over the kingdom. So, the powerful mage created a temporal rift, where he put the heroes fighting for the kingdom’s survival. And here is where you – the champion, enter.
When it comes to the gameplay, it’s as Final Fantasy-esque game as it can be. You have tons of different storylines to check out, a big and wonderful world to explore, and all the cinematics we learned to love throughout all of these years.
Additionally, you can choose either to go for a solo run or join one of the Free Companies all over the world. The community is extremely accommodating, so if you have any doubts – feel free to check it out. Additionally, you can fully customize your experience with 18 different classes.
As usual, you get the experience of fighting against monsters or doing quests. It’s a pretty Japanese-style RPG, so you can basically tweak your stats here and there to see a 0.1% change that will somehow make an incredible impact on the battlefield.
Nevertheless, if you are looking for some magic-fueled but extremely community-based MMORPG to have fun with – this is definitely a great choice all around!
