The Walking Dead

  • Release Date: October 14, 2013
  • Developers: Telltale Games
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iPhone/iPad, Nintendo Switch
  • Metascore: 89

Telltale is the grandfather of choice-based games. Their titles are always highly anticipated by their loyal fans wanting to experience epic, cinematic adventure. The Walking Dead series is considered one of the best games in their portfolio; thus, we’re starting with this one. The game is a loose adaptation of the comic series with the same title, but it's arguably better.

The main character of the first season is Lee Everett. The game's action begins at the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse. While the infection starts its bloody toll, Lee sits cuffed in the back seat of a cop car. He was arrested for murdering a man sleeping with his wife. He’s one of five playable characters in the series.

Eventually, you’ll be taking control over a young girl named Clementine as you progress. She’s one of the best-written characters in the game. Your choices will determine her personality and how she perceives the world around her. It’s an interactive story full of emotional plot twists, multiple endings, and characters that you will remember for a long time.

The Walking Dead: Telltale Definitive Series Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys. It’s the ultimate package with a complete storyline.

Key Features

  • Probably the best interactive drama in the gaming industry.
  • Different main characters throughout the seasons.
  • Similar gameplay to Life Is Strange.

The Wolf Among Us

  • Release Date: October 11, 2013
  • Developers: Telltale Games
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3/4/Vita, Xbox 360/One
  • Metascore: 80

The Wolf Among Us is another Telltale title, representing the same genre as The Walking Dead. It’s a point-and-click adventure mixed with an interactive fiction style of gameplay and yet another experience that puts storytelling and decision-making at its forefront. All that makes The Wolf Among Us one of the best titles from Telltale.

The action takes place in 1980s New York, where fairy tale characters live among other people disguising themselves as humans.  You play as the big bad wolf called Bigby, the sheriff of Fabletown, who is swept up in a murder investigation of other fairy tale characters.

As usual, you decide how to handle the events around you during multiple dialogue choices leading to different outcomes. If you’re a fan of detective games and don’t stray from the fantasy setting, you’re up for one heck of a journey.

It’s not a short game by any means, as it consists of five episodes to complete, slowly unveiling the mystery behind the murders. A similar format was used in Life Is Strange, so I’m certain you’ll also love this one.

The Wolf Among Us Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • A perfectly working mix of fairytale characters with a mature story.
  • Every action has its consequences.
  • Multiple endings.
  • Episodic storytelling format.

Heavy Rain

  • Release Date: June 24, 2019
  • Developers: Quantic Dream, Virtuos
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3/4
  • Metascore: 87

Heavy Rain should come right up your alley if you want a more mature and mystery-focused storyline. It’s an interactive movie where every decision counts; a well-written detective drama, where four protagonists are trying to track down a serial killer responsible for the death of countless children.

It features some elements of an action-adventure game as you’re going to collect clues, solve puzzles, and encounter tons of quick-time events. Unfortunately, gameplay mechanics are clunky and don't hold up to today’s standards. Sometimes, your character can die just because you didn’t complete a few quick-time events. On a positive note, the game still continues, but it will affect the ending you’ll get.

Nevertheless, the story alone makes Heavy Rain worth playing and rewards your patience if you stick with it. Once you reach a certain point, you simply can’t let go of the interesting stories behind every character and their personal motives.

Heavy Rain Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • A criminal/detective adventure highly inspired by David Fincher’s films.
  • Four protagonists with different motives and storylines.
  • QTE reliant.

Until Dawn

  • Release Date: August 25, 2015
  • Developer: Supermassive Games
  • Platforms: Playstation 4
  • Metascore: 79

Although it’s a PlayStation exclusive title, the decision-making aspect of Until Dawn is probably the most developed out of all games on this list. Being a horror game, it presents you with choices and quick-time events that mean life or death for the eight friends trapped in the god-forsaken place.

On the surface, it sounds like every cliche horror movie, but different outcomes of your decisions will surprise you and can even be jaw-dropping. Each choice affects the course of the game, and from time to time, you’ll face important dilemmas that significantly impact the whole story.

Until Dawn doesn't forgive mistakes, our choices are final. If you make the wrong decision and the character you’re directing dies, he’s gone for good. There’s even a possibility that all of them will die.

Overall, Until Dawn offers a hundred different outcomes, and a single crossing of the campaign takes about 9 hours. If you’re a fan of horror movies who wants to decide the fate of several characters, this one should satisfy your needs. The story isn’t that complicated, but it still does enough to keep you guessing.

Key Features

  • Even the tiniest decision impacts the course of the game.
  • Made specifically for horror enthusiasts.
  • Every character can die permanently.
  • Huge replayability potential thanks to different endings.

Quantum Break

  • Release Date: April 5, 2016
  • Developer: Remedy Entertainment
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One
  • Metascore: 77

Quantum Break isn’t exactly like Life is Strange, as it represents a completely different genre. It’s a third-person shooter with a strong emphasis on combat and supernatural abilities. Why is it on this list, then?

Despite being completely different games, they share some similarities. The main protagonist can freely manipulate time, and the final outcome relies heavily on your decisions during gameplay. Similar to Life is Strange, you’ll follow the story of two protagonists.

The narrative presented in Quantum Break is shown through actual gameplay and cinematic cutscenes made with motion capture techniques. It's nothing extraordinary nowadays, but in 2016 it was quite impressive.

While gameplay focuses mainly on the positive hero, the antagonist’s story is shown through cutscenes, and you can play as him occasionally. Either way, you’ll be intertwined in action-packed sequences, numerous plot twists, and various mysteries. Bend time as you will, shape destiny, and change everyone’s fate. The creators of Max Payne sure know how to build tension and keep you entertained till the very end.

Quantum Break Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • A third-person shooter with the ability to manipulate time.
  • The outcome of the story depends on your decisions.
  • Cinematic cutscenes with perfectly executed motion capture.
  • Stunning graphics which hold up well to this day.

Beyond: Two Souls

  • Release Date: July 22, 2019 (PC)
  • Developer: Quantic Dream
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3/4
  • Metascore: 76

Like every title from Quantic Dream, Beyond: Two Souls is a cinematic story-driven adventure that puts a lot of focus on your choices. Different decisions lead to multiple endings and outcomes, just like Life is Strange.

Since she’s been born, Jodie is connected to a mysterious entity from another world – Aiden. This relationship allows the protagonist to do things unavailable to ordinary people – Aiden can tell her what is happening behind closed doors and even move objects. The creature is not only a blessing but also a burden, making Jodie treated like a changeling. Nathan Dawkins (Willem Dafoe), a specialist in paranormal phenomena, helps Jodie to understand her place in the world.

You’ll be taking control of both Jodie and Aiden, who can aid or hinder her journey. Whenever she wants to live a normal life, she’s often caught in a web of difficult choices. These decisions are yours to make, and they will determine how the story will go. The acting of Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe is on point and brings out the best of this interactive adventure.

Detroit: Become Human

  • Release Date: December 12, 2019 (PC)
  • Developer: Quantic Dream
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4
  • Metascore: 80

You’ve probably noticed the pattern here – every game from Quantic Dream is a great alternative to Life is Strange. Gameplay-wise, they’re very similar – only the story and setting are different.

Are you familiar with Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner? Detroit: Become Human takes plenty from it. Playing as three human-like androids, you will often face moral dilemmas bringing you closer to humanity or a cold-blooded machine based on your choices.

People are scared of them because they’re afraid of an uprising. Some of them ignited a riot to break free from human authority and chose to live independently. It’s up to you if you crush the rebellion or make the machines world-changing masters.

This futuristic, strange universe is compelling, and you can truly put yourself in the situation of human-like androids wanting independence. All three playable characters can die during the story. The game doesn’t end but switches to the other one if it happens.

With thousands of choices and dozens of possible endings, you will shape the future of Detroit and the fate of its residents. Its robust and gripping narrative is phenomenal, and it’s hard to get away from the screen until you see the end credits.

Detroit: Become Human Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • An interconnected story delivered through the eyes of three protagonists.
  • Your choices determine the life or death of many characters, including the main protagonists.
  • Many different paths and endings, depending on your actions and the words you say.

The Longest Journey

  • Release Date: November 16, 2000
  • Developer: Funcom
  • Platforms: PC
  • Metascore: 91

The oldest title on our list, but definitely not the worst. The Longest Journey is a graphic adventure game where the title speaks for itself. Here, you’ll explore over 150 unique locations and meet over 70 characters during “the longest journey.” It represents the point-and-click genre, which was very popular in the early 2000s.

The game takes place in 2099, where Earth is divided into two worlds: magical Arcadia and futuristic Stark. April Ryan, the main protagonist, has a vision of the inevitable destruction of both worlds. With that terrifying knowledge, April must decide: ignore the imminent threat or undertake the eponymous journey to prevent the disaster?

The Longest Journey consists of thirteen chapters, and the gameplay is based on the typical point & click adventure mechanics, focusing on exploration and conversations with NPCs. Each of them has a distinct personality and its own story.

Numerous cutscenes and the girl's personal journal can help you connect the story's complexities. Obviously, you’ll be faced with making important decisions throughout your journey, like in Life Is Strange. If outdated graphics and clunky animations don't bother you, The Longest Journey should come right up your alley.

The Longest Journey Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • One of the best point-and-click titles despite its age.
  • Over 150 unique locations and over 70 NPCs with different personalities.
  • Many decisions to make throughout your journey.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope

  • Release Date: October 30, 2020
  • Developer: Supermassive Games
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
  • Metascore: 73

The Dark Pictures Anthology is an interactive drama series that consists of three installments at the time of writing. Little Hope is the latest one, and it's a survival horror similar to Until Dawn.

The story follows four students accompanied by their lecturer, who find themselves in the town of Little Hope. The place is shrouded in an ominous fog, and though it seems deserted, it soon becomes apparent that dark forces have taken over. The protagonists find themselves trapped, and while looking for a way to escape, they have to face terrifying visions of a 17th-century witch hunt and nightmares lurking in the darkness.

The gameplay in The Dark Pictures: Little Hope was based on the scheme developed for the studio's previous games, especially Man of Medan. The action is presented from various cinematic angles, and during the game, we take control of several characters. They wander gloomy locations, face occasional arcade challenges, and solve uncomplicated puzzles.

In addition, we often make difficult choices during the game that affect the course of the story. Our decisions also determine which protagonists survive and how their adventure will end. So if you’re willing to see everything that the authors have prepared, you have to finish the game many times. In this regard, the game is developed even better than Life Is Strange.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • A horror story set in a small ghost town.
  • Local co-op mode.
  • The game is full of difficult decisions which determine the fate of the protagonists.

The first game from Night School Studio has proven to be an excellent debut when it comes to storytelling and decision-making aspects of Oxenfree. Although it’s a 2.5D adventure game, it can make you shed a tear or two during gameplay, similar to Life Is Strange.
