Code Vein is a 2019 anime-like action RPG developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is a new ambitious project of the developers of Dark Souls, Elder Ring, Naruto Ninja Storm 4, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

Two years after its release, Code Vein sold more than two million copies, guaranteeing a new success for Bandai Namco Studios. Besides the base game, Code Vein has three other DLC, released between January and March of 2020.

Story and Background

Code Vein passes in a post-apocalyptic world in a not too distant future. After the outcome of a mysterious disaster, humanity is forced to look into its towering skyscrapers, our former symbols of prosperity, and see only lifeless graves. The world as we know it has been destroyed, and all humanity can do is fight and run from the mistakes that left our past pierced by the thorns of judgment.

In this scenario, some humans were blessed with gifts of power. But the truth is that nothing comes without a price. The exchange was their memories and a newly acquired thirst for blood. At the center of the destruction caused by countless deadly battles lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This society keeps the final stronghold, where the few lasting “humans” fight to survive, desperately clinging to life.

This world is also inhabited by the “Lost.” They are fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity. Those who give in to their bloodlust fully become one of Lost, and they may be the hardest enemies you will find. Satisfying their hunger for blood is the only thing that matters to them, and, to do so, they won’t stop. 

Escape the Nightmare

The only way to escape your living nightmare in Code Vein is to unlock the secrets of your past, and all the remaining humans depend on you. With that in mind, you will team up and embark on a journey to a place far worse than hell itself.

After acquiring a “Lost” blood Code and some special abilities, the player awakes in the Vein. One of them is the capacity of avoiding miasma, which will be really helpful in the task of safe travel through the Vein and exploring the blood springs. 

With no memories of your past, it's time to go on a journey to discover the truth behind your new powers and to decide the faith of the few remaining humans. Remember, the survival of an entire race may be up to you, as the final outcome depends on your actions.

Gameplay and Mechanics

Code Vein is a fast-paced mechanic game played from a third-person perspective. Bandai Namco did not hide the strong inspiration in Dark Souls from the very beginning. The gameplay makes players prove their values to keep advancing, as many enemies can be challenging.

In Code Vein, there’s a mix of magic abilities and many different weapons, including your blood veil. It gives you many combat strategy possibilities and ways to finish your enemies, giving them certain death.
