What Is Far Cry 4?

Far Cry 4 is a first-person action video game that takes place in a vast open world. It’s the direct successor to the previous game, Far Cry 3, and the fourth installment of the franchise.

Story and Background

The main story follows Ajay Ghale, A Kyrati-American guy who returns to his country to fulfill his mother’s dying last wish. He is caught in a civil war involving a rebel movement called the Golden Path and the Kyrat´s Royal Army. The latter is controlled by the tyrant Pagan Min. 

In this context, Ajay Ghale is taken prisoner by Pagan Min. Thanks to the help of Sabal, a rebel commander, Ajay manages to escape. He becomes a symbol of resistance.

To break the reign of Pagan Min, the Golden Path plans to attack his three regional governors: Noore Najjar, Paul "De Pleur" Harmon, and Yuma Lau.

The first governor to fall is De Pleur after Noore helps Ajay find a way to infiltrate De Pleur's stronghold. Noore dies either committing suicide or being killed by Ajay. 

After killing several of Yuma’s lieutenants, Ajay discovers that Yuma has started despiting dictator Pagan Min. Ajay prevails after a confrontation with Yuma. Finally, the Golden Path prepares an attack against Pagan’s Fortress.

Gameplay and Mechanics

Far Cry 4 is a first-person perspective video game. Due to this condition, the game is heavily rooted in exploration an open world filled with possibilities and secrets.

You, as Ajay Ghale, can use a vast array of weapons to defend yourself. These include pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, bows, grenade launchers, sniper rifles, and much more. You have several ways to complete missions, from using stealth to avoid battle, or just facing enemies with firearms and vehicles. You can also hunt animals, ride on elephants and throw baits towards enemies. The world of Far Cry 4 integrates several environments, including rivers, mountains, and forests. To travel between different points of the map, you can use vehicles, such as trucks, buggies, and speedboats.

The world is divided into two halves: North and South Kyrat. South Kyrat is available from the beginning of the game. You must unlock North Kyrat over the course of the story, and bell towers help you to reveal new areas on the map. You can find outposts across the entire world, which you can infiltrate to gain special resources, and complete side quests. Besides, you can earn experience points by defeating enemies and completing quests and use these points for performance boosts and upgrades. 

You have two sets of abilities to choose from: The Tiger and The Elephant. The first improves offensive skills, while the other improves defense. Last but not least, you can accumulate karma by doing good actions. Then you can use it to get discounts when purchasing items in the trading posts.
