Games Like Halo To Scratch That Fast-Paced-Shooter Itch
So you’ve played and finished Halo: Infinite and other Halo games, but crave some more action? Still have a want for a dynamic first-person shooter with awesome guns? You need a well-written storyline and/or multiplayer mode to own some Elite-preferred species? Want to play as another super-soldier?
If you have answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, then do I have a treat for you! To start off, we need to set some criteria. The questions above are your criteria! Not all the games will answer all the questions positively, but you’ll be satisfied, whether you play on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox consoles. With that out of the way, let's get down to business and start digging for some answers!
Destiny 2 (PC and Consoles)
Why shouldn’t we start off with a video game that’s made by the creators of Halo? Coming from Bungie Inc, any Halo fan would be remiss not to check out a title that put a little stop to another Halo game.
So what is it? It’s an odd, yet smooth mix of a third-person shooter with an occasional third-person perspective when you swing a melee weapon. Also, you get mechanics from some RPG games. With online multiplayer community and storytelling as its main focus, divinity is… really engaging. So what do you do in this game?
Here’s What You Do in This Game
Gameplay here is really simple. You grab your guns, grab your armor and go exploring! It’s like an MMO that watched too many streams of fps games.
You can participate in missions, wander around until you stumble upon an adventure that culminates in a fierce boss fight with neat loot. Or you can find a group for various raids and… It’s an FPS MMO, come on.
So why is it considered something similar to the Halo franchise? Because of the gunplay, the experience you get with abilities and the feeling of being an awesome Guardian is tight. You will need to dodge, shoot, jump and shoot your way out of most situations.
That, or grab one of the classes that use melee and go to town on your enemies with a huge pole of pure energy. That’s not all game features, obviously. All I’m saying is that Bungie flawlessly translated their experience with Halo into a never-ending online multiplayer mode that you’ll want to invite your friends into. No matter if you’re flinging black holes, hosing everything down with lead, or sliding like a lunatic to cut all forces of Cabal apart, all fans of Master Chief will feel at home.
All that can also be applied to PvP because, of course, there’s PvP, and again… you played Halo? You’ll feel welcome. On to the story!
The Story!
Ok, hold on, this is not an easy one to cover. See… Destiny 2 has this season system, where each new season adds another big event to the overall narrative. It’s this thing where you grab your friends and just start another “Strike” as the big story missions are called. My advice? Just get into it and experience what happens “now” in Destiny 2.
If you want to know the whole story from the beginning, better dust off your shovel because you’ll need to start digging Wikipedia articles.
The weird thing about all this is that… it’s actually good for gameplay. Whatever happens now, happens now. It makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger. An overarching narrative that you can influence with your friends.
Also, if you’re here just for the story, you can absolutely do that solo. Harder challenges require team and coordination, but if all you want is to explore and collect tidbits of lore? Go for it and get your copy of Destiny 2 - Legendary Edition Steam CD Key at RoyalCDKeys. Excavate ruins new and old, talk with NPCs, find some long-lost journals, and get a glimpse at the greater story.
Titanfall 2 (PC and Consoles)
Do you like mechs? Because this is how you get giant mechs to pilot and shoot with! While campaign-wise Titanfall’s falls a bit short, with only five hours it’s good, but not exceptional. Some reviews compared it to “buddy comedy” with your 6-meter tall robot being the buddy. It’s solid, but nothing to write home about. Multiplayer? That is a whole another story!
Titanfall 2’s Multiplayer Is Kickass
Whoever came up with the idea to combine a fast-paced, first-person shooter with jetpacks, parkour, giant mechs, and amazing map design gets a beer on me. Guns are neat, so is customization, don’t get me wrong.
But compared to the adrenaline rush you feel, when you get onto an enemy mech, unload a magazine into its exposed guts, jump down, power slide, wall-running across the map, all the while gunning everything down… You get me, right? Guns are not the main feature here; they’re complimentary.
And then you can call for your personal mech to come crashing down from the sky, like an orbital knight, ready to take you into his saddle and unleash high-caliber hell on drones and players alike. DAMN, this game hits my every weakness. From big, stompy gameplay, with big, thunk-thunk-ing guns, to literal acrobatics you will do to avoid fire while on foot, it’s action-packed to the brim.
You don’t have to take my word for it. Go, see some gameplay. Compared to the previous game, in this newer release developers improved everything, from mechanics to graphics. Its community is still going strong, and you won’t regret it if you join, by buying your Titanfall 2 CD key at RoyalCDKeys. Certainly worth playing.
Doom (PC and Consoles)
This is the successor of Doom. The Doom that put “first” in first-person shooters.
Of course, further in this article, by “Doom,” I mean Doom released in 2016, and Doom: Eternal. Both titles don’t have much in the way of multiplayer, but that’s ok. It’s the single-player stuff both of these titles excel at, and they’re some of the best games for that.
And let’s be real. Sometimes we need some me-time, slaughtering demons from hell in the most brutal way possible to one of the most hardcore soundtracks imaginable. Apparently the composer, Mick Gordon, remixed some chainsaw sounds, so the music would have that raw, metal ring to it. How’s that for your fps game soundtrack?
They Are Rage, Brutal, Without Mercy…
ANYWAY. Both Dooms have one of the best single-player campaigns I’ve seen in years. The super-soldier protagonist utters not a single word because he lets his actions speak for himself.
And there’s a surprising lot of charm and character to it, like little fist bumps he gives collectible figurines! He’s not a simpleton, but oh BOI, he is angry. How can he not be angry when demons from hell ruined his whole life. But Is he scared? Nope. Demons definitely are. It’s a power trip like that.
He shows that anger a lot. Those actions speaking for themselves are mostly brutal executions of demons, as you jump, run and gun-swap your way across any given area in a mental dance of gore, bullets, and pure brutality. This is the game you launch after a hard day to let off some steam.
Rip and Tear Until It Is Done
The plot is easy to follow, the lore is deep if you want to read into it. If not? The gameplay will do the talking. Fighting the demons can be a hardcore endeavor or a walk in the park. All I’m saying is, both offer cathartic release, when you rip Imps in half or blast them into meaty chunks with a myriad of perk-boosted guns…
Besides that, there are a lot of scenes that make your jaw drop, and I consider them one of the key features. Using an orbital cannon, like an over glorified personal transport, is just one of them. To quote one utterly exasperated character: “You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars!”. You can, by the way. You can also get CD key for both Doom CD key (2016) and Doom: Eternal CD key at our site.
Wolfenstein — Rebooted Series (PC and Consoles)
Welcome to the reboot of a great game! The return of a classic! This is a series where all the parts solely focus on their single-player campaign, and all this dedication really shows. You will play in an alternate reality, as William Joseph „B.J.” Blazkowicz. Basically, the Nazis won the World War II through the infinite power of handwave! Or science…?
This Game Is Like a Satire of All the Bad Guys in Fiction
Look, while the characters treat everything seriously, it is apparent that developers had a lot of fun coming up with downright deranged ideas for their setting. Alternate history, with power armored Nazi, mutant super soldiers? Yup, and they have lasers, in the bloody 50s, which you can obviously use yourself!
Cybernetically enhanced canines, the size of a barn, serving as guard dogs? Here to hunt you down. A 30-meter tall mechanical, nuclear abomination that is there just to keep London in check? Yes, and your job is to destroy it! On foot! With guns!
In many ways, this is similar to the Doom: Eternal. It’s a no nonsense story, that doesn’t require much brainpower to follow, but still offers depth, if you want to look for it. It has amazing, addictive gameplay, satisfying guns, most of which you can dual wield, and gives you no moral dilemma of “who the real bad guys are.”
All of this with a healthy bit of dark humor, that fits the setting like a glove. Not only that, but it’s like the Halo series, in that it offers a multi-title spanning story, about one man who kicks asses through judicious violence, and who fights for what he believes is right.
If you liked the campaign in Halo, you’ll feel at home here. You can find Wolfenstein series on our site.
Singularity (PC and Xbox series)
This one got its release aaall the way back in 2010! Where to even start with this title… Maybe from the fact that you are, in a sense, a future-time policeman, who can use and reverse powers of entropy however you see fit?
Or the fact that gameplay feels like someone put Call of Duty, Halo, F.E.A.R., and Wolfenstein into a blender? There’s even some post-World War II action, with mad scientists and world dictators. For crying out loud!
How to Kill Some(one With) Time
There are games with bullet time, or “Easy mode” as I affectionately call it. Then there is this guy, Captain Nathaniel Renko (you play him, by the way) who uses time to turn people to dust. Or to restore old staircases and mechanisms, adding puzzles to the mix.
There’s also Chrono Ping to become a stalker across time and space. As the game progresses, you get access to more abilities, like gravity manipulation device and… bubble of bullet time! It’s bad press to not have bullet time in a game about time.
Mad Science and Guns
You know how in basically every sci-fi first-person shooter, you have the most advanced technology, and yet all they use in any “futuristic” setting are “futuristic” reskins of basic 20th-century guns? Say no more to that noise! In Singularity, you get your sci-fi assault rifle… and revolver? Eh… you also get a Gatling gun! Ok, there are some truly futuristic weapons, and I screamed the first time I saw them in action. Here they are:
- Railgun — at least it pretends to be one. In reality, it’s a magnetic launcher for explosive spikes that get stuck in enemies and then turn them to chunky salsa.
- Homing sniper rifle — My jaw dropped when I pulled the trigger. Whenever you shoot, you get literal bullet time, as the POV shifts to your projectile, which you steer all the way to someone’s cranium!
- Remote-controlled-grenade launcher — It’s like shooting a deadly Roomba at enemies.
Save the Past From a Bygone Future That Will Never Be
Look, it’s timey-whimey stuff. It will make your brain do backflips in no time if you try to think about how none of this makes sense. It’s there, it’s entertaining, and it’s over the top. You can see its madness for yourself, by buying the Singularity CD Key at our site.
Crisis
I will fondly remember the day when I first started Crisis. The sense of wonder with a new, intriguing campaign. The excitement, when I first heard the memetic words “CLOAK. ENGAGED.” followed by stalking and scouting out the first settlement. Pure power, when you could walk up to someone, grab them by the neck, use Strength mode and just fling them through a house wall.
The whole game is just awesome. And it got a remaster that had a release a couple of years ago, how about that? You can get Crisis CD Key with RoyalCDKeys!
The Story and the Cool Aliens
So, what’s the deal with soldiers in badass nanite spandex and this talk of aliens? Archeology, of course!
Ok, it’s more than that, but that’s the gist of it. American archeologists find a millions-year old ruin, send a distress call, and here comes the army! The North Korean one, because they’re the reason for the S.O.S. in the first place. Or are they? DUN DUN DUUUN… In any case, your squad’s transporter got shot down on your way to the island, where you get picked apart one by one, until only Nomad — the player character — remains. Have fun!
Gameplay
There’s a lot to say here. Your nanosuit and its pool of energy are one of the key features, and it has four modes of operation:
- Armor protects against booletts and boosts energy regeneration.
- Cloak makes you transparent but not invisible. Move quickly, and it’ll drain reserves like crazy.
- Speed is “soldier go fast.”
- Strength is… the most nuanced, oddly enough. It not only allows you to punch like a train or pick up and throw things you shouldn’t be able to. It also lowers recoil of weapons and allows you to jump higher.
Combine all these, and you have yourself an arsenal of abilities that reward quick thinking and rapid change of modes. That, or careful planning to use everything in a precise manner. The game allows you to approach objectives however you like, so go Rambo on them, with guns blazing, or pick enemies out, one by one, like Predator.
All this makes for really immersive gameplay. As long as you’re not detected, enemies are calm, relaxed even. Make even one shot and all hell lets loose as Korean soldiers start swamping your position with reinforcements, covering fire and grenades. So. Much. Fun! Seriously, it’s a nice change to have smart enemies.
Multiplayer
It’s nano on nano action! This is where we get to the sci-fi shooter action and scratch that Halo itch! Here we have personal combat evolved through the use of above-mentioned systems of your nanosuits. It is a fast-paced action of pure awesomeness, where you: spawn vehicles, stalk, punch and shoot with various weapons that you can customize on the fly.
With all that, this is one of the best games like Halo, when it comes to multiplayer experiences. You have abilities to mess around with, and vehicles to grief-roadkill fight others with! There’s also a large scale battlefield in the form of dockyards or some small-time skirmishes in the jungle.
Out of all the titles on this list, this is the one you want to start playing if you crave Halo-like multiplayer.
Conclusion
While the Halo series is one of the best games out there, sometimes you want something a little different. Maybe, because you did all of the achievements, or maybe because you want different experience to be sure why you love Master Chief so much.
I hope, that this list expanded your choice in the matter, no matter what prompted you to seek other titles. Good hunting!
