Final Fantasy XIV or World of Warcraft? It’s a tough question to answer. Both games have pros and cons, strong and weak points. 

On the one hand, the Final Fantasy series has over thirty years of travel and some of the most incredible games of all time, such as FFVII. Some of its mechanics remain until this title. 

On the other hand, WoW has some unique games and a whole legacy to its credit.

Gameplay

Final Fantasy and WoW gameplay mechanics are very similar in several ways. 

Mainly, FF14 keeps some RPG features and mixes them with features of the MMORPG genre. If you play FFXIV for the first time, you can notice that, in general, it has a slow pace, which can be great if you want to explore the world freely without needing to complete missions. 

In WoW, you’re encouraged to form a party with other players to complete the most difficult dungeons and raids. Importantly, these features are the key to the gameplay in WoW. One of the central differences is that World of Warcraft is faster than FFXIV.

Storylines and Quests

These two titles have a strong base game, which builds the foundation for future great expansions that continue the storyline.  

Dungeons and Raids

Both worlds feature a lot of interesting dungeons and raids, ones more revisitable than others. In this sense, there are some reasons to spend time crossing one or another. 

You don’t have real reasons to revisit any dungeon in WoW when you’ve completed it. Maybe the loot, but this doesn’t mean a great reward for the time you spend.

FFXIV dungeons, compared to WoW’s dungeons, feature a level scaling method along with daily roulettes. This way, dungeons add new content, new rewards, and new challenges all the time. 

Regarding raids, WoW raids are less frustrating than FFXIV raids since the combat of the first flows better in these events. Otherwise, in WoW raids, you don’t have room for error; these are a real challenge. WoW raids also involve a number of raid difficulties.

Playing FFXIV raids is not so different from the previous ones. In these, your reaction times need to be on point. This stiffens the system a bit. 

Professions, Classes, and Jobs

Beyond the number or diversity of classes and jobs, there is a different system in each game. On the one hand, WoW limits players to choose between the Alliance and the Horde. It also limits the class they choose for their character. You can only learn two professions. If you want to learn another one, you must unlearn one. 

On the other hand, FFXIV has a flexible system that allows gamers to change among jobs and classes just by equipping a weapon or tool. Then you can change the gear and other equipment. In other words, you’ll be able to access any job just with one character. This system is very easy for new players who are not used to the aforementioned system of permanent classes.

Endgame Content

In this section, we have to say that the endgame content is something that shines brighter in WoW. You can participate in the Arena PvP, engage in duels, additional raids, and be part of the War Mode, to face a rival faction. 

FFXIV, on the other hand, features a wide range of options to enjoy after the high end of the game. These options include new map dungeons, trials, raids, and areas, such as Eureka, to advance more in progression by getting elemental experience, housing, and more. 

Style and Graphics

Both games are children of their time. WoW was released in 2004, thus its graphics are still from that time, of course, with some improvements. Also, WoW relies on Blizzard’s traditional cartoonish style. 

FFXIV’s graphics are high quality, sharper, and more aesthetically pleasing than WoW graphics. These are more realistic and close to games such as Elder Scrolls Online. Besides, during battle, the screen is full of interesting effects.

FFXIV vs WoW Conclusions

Those who have already played WoW and/or FFXIV know that both games are really wonderful. If not, you can expect a lot from both.

You need to build your own way and select the game of your choice.  Most of it depends on your personal taste.
