Best Call of Duty Campaign – Top List!

Call of Duty - soldier running towards the camera

Call of Duty is a franchise that we all know and love for the crazy multiplayer fun it brings. Whether we’re playing some cool Deathmatch fights in some Infinite Warfare or go all out on Battle Royale in Warzone – it’s a crazy game that we can all enjoy online.

But – it’s not only that! Call of Duty is also known for the great attention they give to its single-player campaign.

It started with the first game when they introduced us to a world full of war and sorrow, but not from the usual perspective of The-One-Who-Saves-The-World but as a regular soldier just trying not to die. And whether we’re talking about modern times, the Second World War, or the Cold War era – Call of Duty games always delivered on a promise of not only being a very good online shooter but also creating a captivating campaign.

So, with that in mind, we’ve decided to create a complete list of the best Call of Duty Campaigns for you to enjoy.

Whether we’re returning to fan favorite Captain Price or CIA operative Alex Mason – it’s still a bombastic experience that we’d like to share with you. So, let’s start the countdown!

8. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - soldier standing in position

  • Release date: November 2014
  • Developer: Sledgehammer Games
  • Platforms: Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC
  • Meta Score: 83

This time, we’re heading to the future, searching for the best campaigns for Call of Duty games. It’s advanced warfare with new mechanics, new characters, and – the first entry of the future lore.

First of all, let’s get one thing out of the way. This one is the origin of the “press F to pay respect” meme, so it is worth checking out if only for that reason.

So, it’s 2054. You are the United States Marines Private First Class Jackson "Jack" Mitchell played beautifully by Troy Baker. North Korea invaded Seoul, and you were there to witness that. Unfortunately, you lost your arm during the fight, and your friend, Private William "Will" Irons, died in the battle.

After returning to the country, you got a very interesting offer from a private company Atlas Corporation to join them and receive a prosthetic arm with some cool compensation. So you’re basically a RoboCop now. Oh, and we forgot to mention, the CEO of this company is non-other but Jonathan Irons, AKA Kevin Spacey, a fun fact that would probably not fly amazingly these days.

Anyways, the whole story revolves around fighting the terrorist group called the KVA, created by former Chechen separatists. Their leader, Joseph “Hades” Chkheidze, started numerous attacks around the world. Why? Well, he is a totally technophobic person. And with Atlas as the main proponent of such additions, you probably know where it leads.

Advanced Warfare, apart from having one of the best missions in recent gaming history and accomplishing it with only one button, added some new and fun elements to the franchise – with holographic projections from the weapons and Exoskeleton similar to the one we cherished in Crysis. It’s basically a superhuman ability to jump higher, dash further, and be extremely strong. Also – this time we got some laser weaponry added to the arsenal, so that’s fun. And have we mentioned Future Zombies? Well, there is that as well.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare may not have the best campaign in the whole franchise, but adding some futuristic perspective was not the worst call to make. With so much additional content to the usual “go there, shoot here,” it is really refreshing and worth checking out!

Key Features:

  • Advanced Warfare gave players something that recent entries couldn’t do – the ability to use futuristic weapons and fight in completely new circumstances, and for that – it’s worth checking out.
  • Exoskeleton that elevates the gameplay to a completely different level.
  • Great voice-acting with Troy Baker and, well, Kevin Spacey doing a fantastic job.

7. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - fighting in space

  • Release date: November 2016
  • Developer: Infinity Ward
  • Platforms: Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC
  • Meta Score: 78

…and we’re back in the space. The last “original” game made by Infinity Ward and also – something completely different from previous games as well. The first call of all the die-hard Call of Duty enthusiasts was to just forget about this one and focus on the last installment. There really weren’t that many games in recent years with so many controversies hanging over them, like in this case. So, why is that, and what happened there?

Let’s start with some facts. It’s a distant-distant future. There are no more natural resources on earth, industrial expansion was too big for us to handle, and, well, the only rational way for the allied countries was to create a United Nations Space Alliance. Because, you know, we had to go to space.

The only way people could still live on Earth is if the colonies established in the Solar System can send them resources. The narrative is pretty straightforward, as you can see. And, as you can imagine, some guys try to control these posts.

So, here we are in 2187. You and your team are sent to a secret UNSA weapons research facility on Europa. Some guys from Settlement Defense Front, a group of radicals stationing on Mars, are trying to get their hands on prototype weapons. USA team manages to get the weapon and destroy the facility, but unfortunately, SDF captured you and killed the team members. And it begins.

It may not be breathtaking fiction, but it’s a solid story. The game also introduces some cool mechanics like a boost pack, grappling hook to move around in a zero gravity setting, etc. Also – you get to experience some Call of Duty style space combat by playing Captain nick Reyes, a Tier 1 Special Operations pilot using his transforming fighter, the Jackal.

It is an excellent novelty game that deserves more recognition. It’s so different and unique from what we’re used to that it may just be too much for some die-hard fans.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is available at Royal CD Keys.

Key Features:

  • New space setting with zero-gravity combat and futuristic weapons.
  • A captivating story about the world’s race for the resources in space.
  • Space combat with actual space fighter jets.

6. Call of Duty 3

Call of Duty 3 - soldiers running through the fields

  • Release date: November 2006
  • Developer: Treyarch
  • Platforms: Xbox, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC
  • Meta Score: 82

The game surprised some people by returning to the old and gold World War II setting. Perhaps, the Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault's popularity made them go that road, or it could be something totally else. Nevertheless, it went back to history with style with this very well-crafted campaign that let us see the war from the eyes of soldiers of Poland, the United States, Great Britain, and Canada.

So that’s the good. The not-so is the fact that it really did not bring anything NEW and FRESH to the table. I mean, don’t get us wrong – it’s still an enjoyable experience; it’s just not what we thought we’d get after massive campaigns from the first two games.

It’s all well done, though. American campaign gives us the control of Private Nichols, a replacement for the 29th Infantry Division. From your everyday battlefield to conquering Paris – it’s really something to look out for.

The British campaign is all about Sergeant James Doyle, a member of the Special Air Service (SAS). It is a more specialistic kind of warfare as you are not just a private doing what you’re told but more responsible for your team.

Everything revolves around Private Joseph Cole of the 4th Canadian (Armoured) Division, led by World War I veteran Lieutenant Jean-Guy Robichaud in Canadian exploits. Your main goal is to help the Poles to defend Hill 262 and…

There is a Polish campaign. Corporal "Bohater" Wojciech, a Sherman Firefly tank driver in the Polish 1st Armored Division, and his crew members are set to defend Hill 262 from the German 7th Army. It is the most interesting one of them all as it shows the absolute mayhem of the war.

Key Features:

  • Call of Duty in a World War II setting is always a blast.
  • Four different campaigns, where you can see the war from the Polish, American, Canadian, and British side.
  • Some on-the-ground action that embodies the feel of the war as an ordinary soldier.

5. Call of Duty: World War II

Call of Duty: World War II - soldiers landing on the beach

  • Release date: November 2017
  • Developer: Sledgehammer Games
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4
  • Meta Score: 80

Regarding Call of Duty, there are only three possible options. Near future that many fans disliked only because it felt too science-fiction-esque. Bringing the conflict to the Middle East or Russia to create something more modern. Or – as in this case – going back to the stable and enjoyed by everyone – World War II.

So, is Call of Duty: WWII a good campaign? Well, it depends. It does not provide you with this great conflict going on in the world with peace at stake, but it goes back to the roots of why we loved Call of Duty games in the first place. The idea of it being a personal, touching story of a single soldier and his squad and the horror that is war seen from his eyes.

You are Private “Red” Daniels. You and your team of misfits are not set on some great goal to end the war in the Pacific Theater. It’s more of – let us survive, we really don’t want to be here kind of thing. Thanks to that, developers created an emotional story that we didn’t get from the franchise for some time now. It’s always about the biggest and the baddest guy to take on, but, in the end, it’s people that matter the most.

Call of Duty: World War II allows you to participate in the fights on the West Front, freeing Paris as one of the objectives. The best thing about this campaign is the feeling of unease, unknown, and uncertainty. Definitely worth bagging this one up! Especially, because…

THERE IS ALSO A ZOMBIE CAMPAIGN! World War II wouldn’t be complete without some Nazis doing some weird lab work. It’s just a silly part of the story, but it’s entertaining. You also get Marie Fischer as a playable character, and it’s a rarity to be able to enjoy Call of Duty from a woman’s perspective.

Call of Duty: World War II is available at Royal CD Keys.

Key Features:

  • Going back to the emotional part of the Call of Duty experience with a campaign showing the horror of war.
  • Zombie mode! – you get to kick some Nazi Zombie’s butts with new weapons.
  • World War II scenery always looks good in a Call of Duty game.

4. Call of Duty: World at War

Call of Duty: World at War - warfare

  • Release date: November 2008
  • Developer: Treyarch
  • Platforms: Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC
  • Meta Score: 85

…and we go back to World War. Well, there really isn’t that much creativity you can enjoy while doing some war-based shooters, isn’t it? But, if those products are good, battles are amazing, and PC players, console ones, and everything in between is happy – then it’s all good. The only thing they are unsure of is the whole Vietnam War, but maybe the curse is real, and certain objectives should be left alone.

Anyways, as far as the FPS genre goes – this one is a classic! There are two main campaigns – the American one and the Russian campaign. You can play both of them or just forget about the Soviet Union, but it wouldn’t be a good call as it really is an entertaining one.

But – first things first. The whole story starts on Makin Island on August 17, 1942. You are U.S. Marine Private First Class C. Miller and the situation you’ve found yourself in is, well, not ideal, let’s say. Your friends are being tortured right before your eyes and executed. The same goes for you in the nearest future.

Fortunately, you got rescued by another Marines square with Corporal Roebuck and Sergeant Tom Sullivan leading the strike. The rest is…history. Like literally the history of American soldiers fighting in Japan before you-know-what happened and everyone started watching Anime. It was refreshing to see the war from the lesser-known perspective of American soldiers fighting in Japan as the most cherished countries in that department are France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and maybe Great Britain. Japan was really something else.

The second campaign is cool as well, as it feels like your mission is connected to ending World War II. From driving a tank to storming Berlin, putting a Soviet flag on the Reichstag, and ending the war symbolically, it really has the edge of a good Hollywood movie. It’s not the best-known Call of Duty game, but in some sense, it’s one of the more interesting ones.

Call of Duty: World at War is available at Royal Cd Keys.

Key Features:

  • New surrounding for one of the campaigns in Japan.
  • The moral murkiness of playing a Soviet soldier who ends the war is thrilling and exciting at the same time.
  • Great AI, you really feel the threat for the most part (when you don’t go for some easy kill).

3. Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Call of Duty: Black Ops III - soldier sitting with two pistols

  • Release date: November 2015
  • Developer: Treyarch
  • Platforms: PC, macOS (2019), Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3
  • Meta Score: 81

So, by going back, we mean – going future! The first one on our list is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, one of the best in the whole Black Ops trilogy. Futuristic weaponry – check, Black Ops Cold War between the Winslow Accord and Common Defense Pact – check, cybernetic supersoldiers – check, crazy stuff even among CoD campaigns – check.

The year is 2065, and the world is really crappy, to be honest. The Direct Neural Interface allows soldiers to interact with weapons and computers in some kind of Wi-Fi/Bluetooth kind of way. The third entry in the Black Ops franchise brought a lot of fresh ideas to a little stale Call of Duty franchise at the time. But was it the best Call of Duty single-player campaign?

Well – no. Was it good enough? Yes. They focused on bringing additional content and elements with all the futuristic mumbo-jumbo, while simultaneously not caring that much about the emotional aspects of the campaign. Because of all these advanced technologies, we don’t see that much of people and their struggle; it’s more about pressing some buttons on fancy consoles.

If you want novelty in Call of Duty – this game is definitely for you. If you want to feel the pain of making tough decisions and living through the consequences of them – you will probably need to find something else on this list. We’re not crossing it off. We just know that it may not be for everyone.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is available at Royal CD Keys.

Key Features:

  • Futuristic elements added to the classic combat with Direct Neural Interface.
  • New maps that look nothing like we’ve ever seen before, thanks to setting the action in the future.
  • As usual in Black Ops games – it’s much darker and grittier than your standard Call of Duty experience.
  • Fascinating plot – it could just so happen that the world could be divided into two sides that fight each other in a forever war.

2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 poster

  • Release date: November 2011
  • Developer: Infinity Ward
  • Platforms: PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii
  • Meta Score: 88

Here we are – the first from the original Modern Warfare trilogy, a conclusion some may say to the trilogy, and an invitation for more action in the future! We all know that the first Modern Warfare trilogy was known for many multiplayer modes and great gameplay; what does Infinity Ward’s masterpiece have to offer in the whole plot department?

Well, it turns out that – a lot! Even though the series were mostly focused on multiplayer and previous entries had much more developed stories, Modern Warfare introduced some iconic moments to the franchise and modern conflict.

The conclusion to the great series is as great as all of the components. Evil terrorist and Russian operative Makarov (also – the most wanted man on the CIA list) is one bad SoB. With the Russian government's and ultra-nationalist party's initial support, he performs a few terrorist attacks worldwide to destabilize global governments and empower Russia in its efforts to control the world, even though he was soon to be betrayed by them.

In this installment, we play the fan-favorite Soap MacTavish and returning character in the series of the exact same name – Captain Price. During the Russian mission, we take control of Yuri, a Spetsnaz operative.

The ending of the first Modern Warfare trilogy is cool, and the screenwriters did a great job of portraying a villain-esque character with Makarov, but it isn’t as good as it could have been. Nevertheless – as one of the best AAA games of its generation – it’s still kickass!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is available at Royal Cd Keys.

Key Features:

  • Good conclusion to the first of the Modern Warfare trilogy.
  • One of the best gameplays in the entire franchise, with a great selection of modern weapons and equipment.
  • Modern setting that lets you immerse yourself in the story.

1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - soldier shooting in the air

  • Release date: November 2007
  • Developer: Infinity Ward
  • Platforms: PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, macOS, Wii
  • Meta Score: 94

And here we are. The title everyone was waiting for. So many memories… Gamers all over the world just dropped everything and started playing this masterpiece. Honestly, this was a new standard for first-person shooters in general and one of the best games of the decade. And it’s not an opinion – it’s a fact! Millions of copies sold all over the world – servers really couldn’t take a break even for a moment! So yeah, let’s talk about the game that changed it all – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

The plot is pretty simple. It’s 2011, and there is a civil war in Russia between the government and Ultranationalists. Also – an unnamed country in the Middle East was taken over by an anti-Western separatist group led by Khaled Al-Asad. That’s the back story. Introducing British Special Air Service operator Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish, recruited by non-other than Captain Price. And the rest is history.

I know that it reads like some dollar store novel that no one gives a crap about, but it’s not about the particular instances that are happening. It’s about a path of a hero. It is emotional suspense that this story introduced to the series. The most impactful moment was not when everything was blowing up but when it was quiet. The emotional impact this game left on many players in the past was thrilling. Add an amazing multiplayer mode that was just as close to perfect as it can be, and you definitely have a legendary production. If this one is not worth trying out, nothing is.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is available at Royal Cd Keys.

Key Features:

  • The best Call of Duty game ever made.
  • The emotional and impactful storyline will leave you in tears.
  • Realistic gameplay and movement of AI enemies.
  • Amazing choreography of the action, feeling like you’re at luna park watching this great thing unfolding right before your eyes.

Honorable Mentions

Well, that’s that, of course – there are many debates about what is what and which is which, but I think we can all agree that at least some of those games are among the best of the best. But – to be fair and balanced – here are some honorable mentions we may have missed.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 poster

Well, we’ve decided to choose only one from the Black Ops games, and Black Ops IIII was just not up our alley. Still – it’s a really good game. It does not go as far into the future as Infinity or Advanced Warfare, but it improves on the weaponry that we all know and love from this time. For sure worth checking out.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is available at Royal Cd Keys.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Poster

And here’s another Black Ops game. Ish. This one is mainly worth checking out for two reasons. First – it’s the only Call of Duty that does not take place in the World War/Present/Future scenario. And it’s the first time, really. The other is – it’s pretty fresh, so the graphics are still cool and fun. It got some good reviews, so yeah, check it out.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available at Royal Cd Keys.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 - soldier using nightvision

This one we didn’t put on our list only because it was just too much modern-warfaring in one place. Like really, how much can we handle? Nevertheless, it’s a very cool game, it’s fresh, it has an amazing campaign, and it was just marvelous to play some Battle Royale in Warzone. Really brought back the game on the scene.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) is available at Royal Cd Keys.

Thanks!

Call of Duty - soldier giving thumbs up

So this is it, the best campaigns in Call of Duty. We tried to pick out something for everyone, but as it usually turns out – it just may not be the way people want it to be. Anyways, we hope that you have picked out something for yourself or just got a chance to explore this vast and amazing world of Call of Duty Games.

We didn’t include Call of Duty or Call of Duty 2, as those games are probably too old nowadays to play. Arguably though, those could be one of the top ones on this list. Nevertheless, our task force is ready for you, so if you need some more relevant and possibly amazing games ranked – let us know!
