Best Borderlands Game - From Handsome Jack to Tiny Tina
Best Borderlands Game - From Handsome Jack to Tiny Tina
More than ten years ago, Gearbox Software developed the original Borderlands game, bringing that traditional and unique art style, several different weapons, and unique story development. Well, now we look behind and see the size of the success the Borderlands Franchise has made so far, and we just can’t help to wait for more.
The series has eight already released games and a ninth just about to come in 2022. And along these 13 years, Borderlands games have become a huge trend and are considered some of the funniest games when compared to other shooters. Thinking about those who want to try the Borderlands series, RoyalCDKeys prepared a list with all the Borderlands Games ranked. So let’s see what the best Borderlands games are!
8 - Borderlands Legends
- Release Date: October 31, 2012
- Developer: 2K China
- Platforms: Mobile (out of store)
- Metascore: 52
We begin our trip to the Borderlands world by talking about Borderlands Legends. And if we could say the Borderlands franchise ever had a bad game, this is it: Borderlands Legends. It was a risky idea to take the shooting mechanics players learned to love and turn it into an RTS format gameplay with a top-down view.
We understand this was a whole new idea and format but what made fans sad was the lack of care in the game. Besides that, Borderlands Legends doesn’t have enough content to make even the most ferocious fans keep trying.
They did a great job with looks and game vibes, successfully bringing it back to mobile. Another good point is that players control the four main characters again. But that’s all. It has even been removed from Apple Store and has no signs of returning.
7 - Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
- Release Date: October 12, 2014
- Developer: GearBox SOftware, 2K Australia
- Platforms: Pc, X3650, PS3
- Metascore: 77 (PS3), 75 (PC), 74 (X360)
If there is a game that divides players, it is Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Despite the funny yet confusing name, Pre-Sequel is the Prequel to the first Borderlands game. Many players just avoid playing it because they consider it a filler of the series, and we have to say that we know where this thought comes from. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel brings a lot of repetitive mechanics that we had on the original Borderlands game, even though it came five years later, with the potential to get much more.
Well, the best thing about the game is Handsome Jack. Pre-Sequel gives us the highly anticipated chance to see Handsome Jack’s rise to power and to understand how he became the bad guy we see at the beginning of Borderlands games. Besides the lore, the game has other exciting elements, such as exploring possibilities on Pandora’s moon. To complete, this is also the history of Claptrap, a character this Borderlands predecessor brought and everybody learned to love.

6 - Borderlands 3
- Release Date: September 13, 2019
- Developer: Gearbox Software
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, XONE, XSeries, PC
- Metascore: 91 (PS5), 82 (XONE), 81 (PC), 78 (PS4)
This is a complicated game, for sure. It has one of the most refined gameplay of the entire series and many players fell in love with it. But Borderlands 3 doesn’t do much more than that and suffers from what many call technical hiccups. The worst thing about this game is the creation of the Calypso Twins, which are far behind Handsome Jack.
The Calypso twins should’ve been developed better, considering that they are the main antagonists from Borderlands 3. There are lots of things missing in their writing. Sadly, that game had the chance of taking everybody by assault, and the existence of Borderlands 2 was a good reason for us to expect the most exciting new entry. Well, if writing and story development aren’t a problem for you, this still is a great game with many features in terms of gameplay.
You can get Borderlands 3 Steam CD Key or Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut Steam CD Key with RoyalCDKeys.
5 - Borderlands
- Release Date: October 20, 2009
- Developer: Gearbox Software
- Platforms: PS3, X360, PC
- Metascore: 84 (X360), 83 (PS3), 81 (PC)
As we are begging to have a bigger number of Borderlands games ranked, we finally get to the first game of the entire series! The original game doesn’t disappoint and brings a very interesting experience. You have a great starting point if you want to play the entire Borderlands series. But we decided to put it so down on the list because this amazing game that started the journey of the vault hunters is not as solid as it was before.
The first game features are great, but you’ll have a better experience with other franchise titles, which may make this video game feel like a one-shot adventure. The whole decade that separates this game release from us made the difference. Yet, The original Borderlands presents us with a set of memorable characters and gameplay, a rewarding loot system, and excellent stories. For all of these, players will still have a fun time.
4 - Tales From the Borderlands
- Release Date: November 25, 2014
- Developer: Telltale Games
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XONE
- Metascore: 88 (XONE), 86 (PS4), 85 (PC)
We follow with Tales From the Borderlands, which is a rather complicated game to rank. That's because we leave the traditional shooting and looting we got used to in the previous games. This time, we follow a set of Borderlands tales presented through an interactive graphic adventure, where your actions have consequences in the end. The Tales From the Borderlands story revolves around two characters, Rhys and Fiona, who partner up to find an open vault.
Like some other Telltale games, this game is praised for its incredible and funny history, considered by many the best of the franchise. If you didn’t fall in love with Pandora yet, this is it, as Tales From the Borderlands expand and present this well-known scenario in a way never seen before. Despite being a little buggy, this is a different experience every Borderlands lover should pass through.
3 - Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep - A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure
- Release Date: June 25, 2013
- Developer: Gearbox Software
- Platforms: PC, PS3, X360
- Metascore: 87 (PC), 86 (X360), TBD (PS3)
The most interesting thing about Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep is that it was supposed to be just DLC content of Borderlands 2, but it was so good that it ended up as a standalone game. It takes Tiny Tina and her crew to a fantasy challenge highly based on the tabletop RPG game Dungeons and Dragons, where Tiny Tina becomes the Bunker Master, also known as the Dungeon Master. Assault on Dragon Keep is what we can call a Role Playing Shooter.
This brings a new approach to the traditional shoot and loot game. The story writing is far crazier than in other Borderlands games, as the developers turned Pandora into a DnD adventure. The only thing that may keep players away from Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep is the game’s age. Since it was released almost a decade ago, graphics and gameplay may not be as good as some expect. Yet, we truly recommend it. The crazy narrative isn’t something you will easily forget.
2 - Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Release Date: March 25, 2022
- Developer: Gearbox Software
- Platforms: PC, PS5, XSeries
- Metascore: TBD
After the huge success that Tiny Tina made with the DLC that ended up as a standalone release, we could only await a sequel. It's rare to see a series of games that works so well with its spin-offs as Borderlands. This is the latest entry and the freshest content we have to explore, with new missions to pass and enemies to defeat. Since this isn’t a DLC like its predecessor, we have a lot of unique content, events, bunkers, and badasses to see.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands brings Andy Samberg and Wanda Sykes to the front of the project that, just like the first Tiny Tina’s game, brings a mashup of the traditional shooting and Dungeons and Dragons once again. You won't be disappointed if you like funny dialogue and chaotic development. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands changes the traditional vault hunter in favor of new customizable heroes, intending to make players more involved with the story.
You can get Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Epic Games CD Key with RoyalCDKeys.
1 - Borderlands 2
- Release Date: Septembe4 18, 2012
- Developer: Gearbox Software
- Platforms: PC, PS3, X360
- Metascore: 91 (PS3) (Metacritic Must Play), 89 (PC and X360)
We finally get to the best Borderlands game ever made! The statement that Borderlands 2 is the best game of the series is incontestable. Even a decade of releases of some of the best Borderlands games could take first place from this title. Just think that Borderlands 2 is the base game from which Tiny Tina’s DLC came out. And besides all the game’s characters, we have the introduction of Handsome Jack, the insane and most loved villain of the Borderlands series.
Well, Borderlands 2 didn’t move worlds to receive its great gaming reviews. Many of its features came from the first Borderlands, and they have just refined the experience and fixed some bugs, glitches, and other issues. Yet no one feels like there was a lack of new content, and we can see the improvement.
If you’ve played the first game, you will notice more customization options, guns, and even a badass rank that helps players upgrade their characters. Many things are outdated in Borderlands 2, but it would be madness not to give this game the change it deserves.
