This content requires the base game Outward on Steam in order to play.
Outward is an immersive RPG experience with some surviving elements and a vast world to conquer! Don’t hesitate and play Outward - there are so few games that form such deep connections between the player and the played.
The Outward PC version is a game that is just free, allowing you to experience life as it is. There are no shortcuts like, for example, that your character does not need to sleep. Nine dots studio made sure to make the game as real as possible. You have to eat, sleep, drink and slay the monsters with your crafted weapon!
It can be occasionally frustrating, but the other game on some corresponding platform can also be too! (I’m looking at you, Bloodborne). However, it’s definitely rewarding when you manage to, well, keep yourself alive and even score some points!
Gameplay and Mechanics
You are not a hero (maybe in the future?) What you are, though, is a human. And we all know what it is like! We are a leaking, snorting, pooping mess. Not like those high-class warriors or mages. Nope, just the ordinary guys with some hip problems who can’t sit up straight.
And, believe it or not, so is our protagonist! He can’t just kill a bunch of creatures, sleep with a princess, and then kill some more! He is a human with some pretty human needs; protecting himself from cold, bad environmental conditions and just getting enough water during the day. It is not as easy as it may seem.
It’s an open-world experience RPG, so you can do whatever you like. The game really puts a stamp on the survival element. Remember, it’s a cruel world, and everything can knock you down. You can wake up in a hospital one time or find yourself captured by bandits who will steal your teeth. Or something. Bandits are banditing all over the place!
So, what made this game so popular, and what are some of the mechanics of it? Let’s find out!
Survival of The Fittest
The deadly world of Aurai is not a forgiving one. To stay alive, you can’t just walk around with a stick and bash everyone in the head with it. You have to be clever - and, most importantly, prepared.
Think about many different strategies against your enemies; remember your basic needs such as sleep, eating, drinking, and occasional recreational activities, if you know what I mean (UNO is such a friendship-ruining game). Survive the wilds and collect the goods - you will be rewarded in, well, staying alive.
For example, if you don’t treat your infected wound, it’s not like it’s going to disappear, right? Well, the same thing happens in Outward. If you don’t take care of your problems, they are going to let you know about themselves in the future.
You can’t really save the game, so be very careful what you do - everything has consequences, just like in real life. In the same way, remember that if you sleep in your bed, the chance of something wrong happening to you is rather low. But when you sleep in the forest surrounded by some wild animals? Well, your chances of survival suddenly drop!
Play With a Friend!
Sharing is caring! You can play by yourself (SINGLEPLAYER!) or do it with others. The multiplayer mode in Outward is a place where the magic happens. Co-op, split-screen - you name it, the multiplayer mode is really expansive.
You can fight greater threats, kill bigger monsters and, you know, just hang out like two cowboys looking after some cattle. With swords, magic, and some not really nice creatures lurking everywhere.
Also, it makes the game a little bit easier, thanks to the amazing creation of - being revived. If you’re down, your friend can help you out. And you don’t even have to call them!
The key feature of your adventurous life is crafting. Before every battle, remember to prepare the necessary tools. You may not have a second shot if you miss. Find what you need in the wild and start preparing - you do not have that much time just to sit around.
Outward also has a very creative way of approaching magic. Similar to many Dungeons and Dragons games, you can use the spells however you like, not only in the way intended by the creators. If you have some fire spells, nothing is standing in your way if you would like to have a campfire or, I don’t know, roast a pig.
The World Is Yours To Conquer
If you want to survive and experience this incredible world, you need to act fast. Grab something to eat and drink, craft some crazy weapons and go to sleep! It does not seem like a badass thing to do, but it gets the job done!
The world of Outward is full of amazing quests and things to discover, so you have to be prepared for it! Join one of the factions or go rogue - the choice is yours. Ask for recipes, learn how to make potions, get to know some magic, and maybe, one day, you will have your own home with some new problems.
