The game story presents the entity, a spider god from the old blood web. It is awakened and summoned by acts of extreme violence and malice. Pulling serial killers or victims of terrible tragedies from reality, the entity convinces or forces them to participate in rituals.
The survivors are taken to the entity reality when they wander too close from where the killer was taken. To maintain the current reality, the spider entity demands sacrifices. It is feeding on the victims' souls when the killers do their job or the survivors' hope when they escape from death. Therefore, it acts as a neutral spectator waiting for a blood sacrifice.
Theeplay of Dead by Daylight is simple. But even though it follows the same pattern, it has its unique features and ways to not get repetitive neither for players nor assassins.
Each match is composed of five players. In Dead by Daylight, one of them gets in the skin of a brutal killer, whereas the other four become victims that are also potential survivors. These victims or survivors must activate generators, allowing them to escape through two specific doors. However, the doors are randomly placed through a procedurally generated map and locked until the energy is fully restored.
To do so, players have many ways, with the option of going solo or playing to help their “partners” while fighting not to get killed. The killer must track, catch and kill all the survivors by hanging them as a human sacrifice to the entity - a nameless powerful evil god for whom the killers serve.
Even though Dead by Daylight started with a small number of assassins and survivors, the game has gone through several changes and improvements. After it has received new content, every player has a wide range of options when choosing who to play as.
