Top 13 Best Mech Games Ever – Check Our Picks!

Top 13 Best Mech Games Ever – Check Our Picks!

The biggest guys need the biggest games – and here we are to provide them to you! Mech games had a rough path to greatness. Even though they were beloved by the people and everyone wanted just to go around and destroy enemies in a big robot, the developers could not really match people’s expectations.

We all wanted big fights, explosions, and different skills, but many games in this “genre” did a weird roguelike spin on them and let us go straight ahead while killing multiple mobs. Fortunately, any mech game you can find on our list is free of this burden, and while some of them are not these big A++ productions, they still have a heart and gameplay to prove it.

Of course, we’ve got those as well, and whether it’s one of the strategy games we would like to present to you or some BIG MECHA games with an insane multiplayer mode – we hope that you will enjoy at least some of them.

Of course, all of them are available at RoyalCDKeys at budget-friendly prices, and you can check the links to each to see if it’s something for you. So, without further ado, let’s start with some great big mech games for all of us to enjoy!

Titanfall 2

  • Developer: Respawn Entertainment

  • Release date: 2016

  • Meta Score: 89

  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One

The first one on our list is an absolute classic – Titanfall 2. If you haven’t had the pleasure of getting in contact with this title, you will surely be overwhelmed with how much it can provide. It’s one of the best mech games ever created and a worthy successor to the first game.

What is this game all about? Well, mechs! There are two ways of looking at Titanfall 2. The first one is an amazing campaign that lets you peek into the crazy world of mechs. You start as a Pilot, a highly trained individual that gets to be the commander of one of those big bad boys in combat.

Playing without mechs is also a pretty fun experience, as walking on walls and using a grappling hook can be entertaining. Also – you get to experience many futuristic weapons that are very cleverly done. It’s not your Blaster 1/Blaster 2 kind of situation, but every weapon has unique abilities that make it a pretty enjoyable experience.

The plot is interesting and worth diving into, especially as it is in the same universe as the other Respawn Entertainment game – Apex Legends.

There is a couple of standard multiplayer modes, like protecting the base or team deathmatch, but every now and then, if you play well, you can summon a mech onto the battlefield and spread mayhem all over the map. And you can believe that mech-on-mech violence in this game is something that you have never seen before. If you would ask us for our favorite – Titanfall 2 is up there!

Brigador: Up-Armored Edition

  • Developer: Stellar Jockeys, Gausswerks
  • Release date: 2016
  • Meta Score: 70
  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux

On the completely different side of things, we have – Brigador. When it comes to the mech genre, this is where the roguelike aspect of it shines the brightest. The most exciting thing about Brigador is that you can literally destroy every stage in the game. And that’s only the starting point of this great game!

Every mech fan will surely enjoy this wonderful presentation of what would happen if mech action games met the cyberpunk world. Well, you would get Brigador. The vibe of that dark red/pink scenery makes the whole thing feel like an 80s dream, and being able to destroy it all in our mech makes it that much more enjoyable.

The main plot is pretty simple; you are a mercenary trying to escape this awful planet in a mech. Pretty straightforward, right? To do that, you will need to complete 37 missions with 56 mechs, so be sure to catch them all!

Super Robot Wars 30

  • Developer: Banpresto, B.B.Studio

  • Release date: 2021

  • Meta Score: 79

  • Platforms: PC

If we were giving points for titles, Super Robot Wars 30 would definitely be up there. It’s basically an anime, to be honest. If you have ever watched the Neon Genesis: Evangelion, loved the Power Rangers fights, and enjoyed Gundam, this game combines all of those experiences into a simple game of turn-based tactics.

As with every jRPG, you get tons of specs that you can slightly improve with some pretty precarious items. There are a lot of anime-screaming faces and characters from over 20 anime series in one game! If that does not make this mecha anime-style game worth checking out, then we can’t really tell you what would!

If you have ever enjoyed any kind of anime with big robots fighting each other for the sake of friendship and saving the human race (as most Japanese productions do), this is definitely a game for you to enjoy.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance

  • Developer: Bandai Namco Games, Artdink

  • Release date: 2019

  • Meta Score: N/D

  • Platforms:  PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One

Speaking of Gundam – SD Gundam Battle Alliance is a next game on our list! This world is probably something that most mech game enthusiasts have been waiting for years. It combines all the characters from this extremely popular show in a single action-RPG game. Join the pilots from all the Mobile Suit Gundam history in this fantastic experience that puts the G in the Gundam series – the Battle Alliance!

As usual, the game takes place in the G: Universe, where you lead a squadron of 3 pilots from the rich Gundam history to fight against, well, other pilots, to be honest. This game takes the Dragon Ball path when it comes to the plot, and rather than expanding the universe we all know and love, it allows us to get deeper into it by introducing the threat of the timeline being destroyed. That way, we can relieve all the magical elements of this mech power fantasy world rather than get involved in a B-subplot that no one really knows anything about.

And if you played any of the recent Dragon Ball games, you will quickly see the similarities between these two. In order to make this experience as fun as possible, you get to roam the G: Universe in one of the many different suits from the anime history, kill some mobs, and once more get to know all the different plot points in this rich and wonderful world of Gundam.

And – you can do it with friends! So, join up in the 2-3 person teams and fight solo or with friends in order to finally repair the timeline so even more shenanigans can happen in the fantastic world of Gundam!

M.A.S.S. Builder

  • Developer: Vermillion Digital

  • Release date: 2019

  • Meta Score: N/D

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows

Let us answer one thing straight ahead. No, M.A.S.S. Builder is not a gym simulator. Actually, the M.A.S.S. acronym stands for the Mechanical Assault Skeleton Suit. And what a suit it is! The best thing about this particular title is probably the customization aspect of it. As with most of the games on our list, it’s still pretty much an anime-based title, so if you have a favorite anime mech suit that you would like to recreate in the game – it’s certainly a possibility.

M.A.S.S. builder has hundreds of different customization options that definitely beats almost every game on our list. You can recreate your favorite mechs from Neon Genesis, Gundam, and other animes or movies you loved to watch! And now – you can play them as well!

The gameplay is pretty similar to the Gundam: Battle Alliance, where you roam the deserts and streets, fighting off the enemies, aliens, and whatever they are trying to throw at you, so it’s a pretty great title that all mech fans will probably enjoy checking out.

Of course, it’s not the most advanced of the games regarding worldbuilding, but it’s especially fun if you just love spending hours in the garage trying to craft the perfect strike suit.

Mech Armada

  • Developer: Lioncode Games

  • Release date: 2022

  • Meta Score: N/D

  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One

Next up on our list is Mech Armada. It’s another turn-based RPG game on our list, with a roguelike aspect and many fantastic customization options for you to check out. If you like something slower but satisfying, you should give this one a chance. If we were to compare this one to other popular games in recent years, the Darkest Dungeon is probably the closest.

And – it’s pretty much the same thing. Just exchange all the dark fantasy elements with mechs and a lighter scenario, and you have yourself a Mech Armada. It’s a tactical RPG in a mech world with a pretty fun campaign, 5 different bosses, and 30 monster types for you to fight with. It may not be the most exciting action game ever, like some of the First Person Shooters we have on our list, but we chose this one strictly because the tactical aspect is really well done. Like on the higher end of things for sure.

So, if you enjoy planning your five moves in advance and thinking about outsmarting your enemies in your mechanized armor of a giant robot, you should definitely give the Mech Armada a shot.

MechWarriors 5: Mercenaries

  • Developer: Piranha Games Inc.

  • Release date: 2021

  • Meta Score: 74

  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One

And here we are – MechWarriors 5: Mercenaries. The OG of the mech games genre in a new and improved format. This is probably the most immersive mech game on our list, and for a reason. You are literally sitting inside a giant mech robot in an armored core of a machine, walking around and doing missions while also fighting with hoards of enemies. Well, maybe not hoards, but – dozens for sure, as the gameplay, thanks to the perspective, is not the fastest. This thing weighs a lot!

It’s a hardcore simulation, and you will never feel as at a place in those powerful mechs as in this game. Every single turn in a mech takes a lot of time, so you need to strategize in advance and react to your environment rather than going rogue and killing everything that stands in your way.

The game offers us over 50 different machines, each with its own abilities and weapons. There are plenty of customization options, you can see if the mechs are a good fit for you, change tactics if necessary – literally do pretty much anything you would expect of a game based around mechs.

And, if you feel like killing the enemy mechs is not something you would like to the alone, you should definitely check the Mechwarrior online aspect. Get into your iron giant with up to four friends and fight as a mercenary pilot and, as they state in the promo materials – follow a quest for glory and revenge! Well, it does not get much better than this, does it?

Into the Breach

  • Developer: Subset Games

  • Release date: 2018

  • Meta Score: 90

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, Linux, Stadia, iOS, Android

Into the Breach is our next installment in the best mech games list and let us tell you – it’s something completely different than all the rest. It’s a real-time tactics game with a pixelated art style that is something so unique and cool to look at that we just had to include this one on our list. The world is being threatened by, well, the breach, where terrifying monsters are spewing out. Your goal is not to let humanity die out and prevent the horrible monstrosities from taking over the world!

This rouge-lite game may seem like an old concept, but its level of advancement is something off the charts! The different puzzles you need to go through in order to get over some sticky spots in the game are really well done. Same for the improvements you can make to your mechs and different pilots you can choose for different missions – it’s really a lot!

The most important thing in Into the Breach is to adapt to different situations rather than go full guns blazing each and every time. And for that, this is probably one of the most interesting games on our list with a great plot, lots of customization options, and just overall – a full-fledged game that you can see that people cared about. And it’s always a plus for every PC gamer!

BattleTech

  • Developer:  Harebrained Schemes

  • Release date: 2018

  • Meta Score: 80

  • Platforms: macOS, Microsoft Windows, Linux

And now for something completely different – BattleTech. Based on an extremely popular tabletop game, now it’s available in a digital form. So, what the fuss is all about? The basic concept is simple: you are a mercenary commander with a team of extremely powerful battle mechs that you must command to win the fight between different Nobel houses.

You can control a team of four mechs in combat and order them around to maximize the effectiveness of your team.

You are basically a mercenary for hire, and you just go and take the highest bid. You can either go the whole story mode campaign if you’d like or go into the sandbox mode where you can see the great open world of BattleTech. If this kind of tabletop style of gaming is something you are looking for, then BattleTech is definitely the game for you.

Supreme Commander 2

  • Developer: Gas Powered Games

  • Release date: 2010

  • Meta Score: 77

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, macOS X

Next up on our list the Supreme Commander 2, and now, we do not mean the North Korea regime, but a wonderful, exciting world of MechCommander that we would like to invite you to.

First of all, it’s one of THE strategy games of our lifetime, so it may not be a fast-paced load-out kind of game, like many others on our list, but it does not mean that every front mission will be easy. In this real-time strategy you can do anything! From getting new weapons, or ruling the realms on your own right, Supreme Commander 2 will take you on a ride that you will never forget.

There is no bigger game than this when it comes to the sheer scope of things, as you can have battles of hundreds of enemies swarming at each other in the biggest mech warfare ever created.

Sky, sea, land, everything in this game gets overwhelmed with thousands of machines destroying each other to win the war and eliminate the other factions. And that’s only the single-player aspect of the game. In multi – the mayhem gets even crazier, as fighting against real people with their strategies is much more difficult than fighting against swarms of mobs. If it’s something you think you’d enjoy – give this one a chance!

Portal 2

  • Developer: Valve

  • Release date: 2011

  • Meta Score: 95

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch

After all these big ones, we have a little cheat sheet for you to enjoy as well. And first of our “cheated” mech games is Portal 2. To be honest, it is essentially a mech game, although – it may not be something that you are used to. You get to interact with Glados, Wheatley, and Turret drone, and the humor in this game is just outstanding.

The basic concept of this game is pretty simple – you have this portal gun that you can shoot a portal out of with an entrance on one side and an exit on the other.

The game is filled with incredible humor, puzzles you will spend hours trying to understand, and an amazing hate/love relationship between a robot and a human. It’s especially fun in co-op mode, where you can take control of the robot and solve many different puzzles together with a friend. It’s one of the few games that stood the test of time and should be included in most of the lists ever created! Let’s go on to the next gem on our list!

Fallout 4

  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios

  • Release date: 2015

  • Meta Score: 87

  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One

Fallout 4! This is much more based on the mech reality, as you literally walk in the mech armor during big parts of the game, and if not – you would definitely seek out such a thing. Fallout 4 is one of the greatest RPG games ever created, allowing you to create a wonderful, suited-only experience while going through the Appalachian Wasteland.

The mech aspect of this game shines the brightest in the Power Armor aspect, where you turn into a literal robot that blasts everything there is on its way to greatness. And, with special modding, you can even create full mech fights in the game.

The whole game focuses on the concept of surviving the apocalypse with a pretty ironic twist, which you may know from the Dr. Strangelove movie, where the threat is so high, and it’s so dramatic that you are starting to somehow enjoy it. It gets comical, is what we are trying to say.

And – it’s like that in the Fallout games. Even though the people who survived the nuclear apocalypse in the Vaults may not have the easiest life to go back to, it seems like the 50s music and lots of Nuka caps can make this experience that much more enjoyable than it would be otherwise.

Fallout 4 allows you to not only roam the nuclear desert to find meaning in your life and your family at the same time but also – gives you the opportunity to create settlements, craft amazing weapons, armor, and many other elements that may or may not bring you closer to the win.

It’s an overall fantastic title and should definitely be included on this list and – in your private ones as well!

Horizon Zero Dawn

  • Developer: Guerilla Games

  • Release date: 2017

  • Meta Score: 89

  • Platforms: Playstation 4, Microsoft Windows

And finally, we have Horizon: Zero Dawn, one of the greatest action games ever created. Utilize the beasts roaming the wilds of the future Earth as your personal drones and fight against the dinosaurs roaming the planet. Your mission is to hunt those bastards and get to know the reason why the whole world got dominated by giant mech animals.

Two aspects of this game are unique in our opinion. First of all – it looks incredible. There is no doubt why this game was chosen as a Playstation 4 exclusive that would make people want to buy the console from Japan. With 20 different beasts to fight within the wilds and even more ways of doing it – this game has no competitor on the market.

The other element that is worth mentioning is the plot. Aloy is a wonderful character, with a lot of heart and even more charm to her than most of the other characters on this list. The best thing is that it’s a multi-dimensional character not limited simply to being a damsel in distress, but a crafty and thoughtful person, with her issues, opportunities, lows, and ups that she constantly cycles through. Well, who wouldn’t,  when met with a terrifying scenario where the giant dinosaur-like robots are roaming the Earth, and there seems to be no stopping them?

It’s a fantastic game that we just can’t recommend enough to you. If the robot fighting is something you enjoy, but you also like amazing graphics with some fantastic plot, great voice acting, and an overwhelmingly good script – then Horizon: Zero Dawn is something for you!

The Best Mech Games – Conclusion

We are at the end of your long and winding journey! Thank you so much for stopping by, and we hope you could find something that suits your needs. There are various genres of mech games on our list, so we hope that we were able to get something that is just the right fit for you.

Of course, there are a lot of games we didn’t include, like a Code Geass game that we felt no one would be able to play or Daemon x Machina that was just too similar to all the other games to be included on our list. Of course, it doesn’t mean that those games are bad; they just weren’t the right fit for this list in particular.

As you can see, you can choose something for your everyday gaming experience – like multiplayer in Titanfall 2, something to experience like in the case of Horizon: Zero Dawn, games that you can grind for years like Supreme Commander 2 or just put on for a while and go back to it from time to time, like many of the others. For even more powerful Mechs – check out our website, there is a lot for you to find there. And, if you want to see some games from different genres than giant fighting robots, RoyalCDKeys is there for your comfort.
