Games Like Visage – The Scariest of the Scary!
In recent years, we’ve had numerous fantastic titles that guaranteed an immersive experience where the main character was most likely traumatized for life after finishing this adventure. There’s one particular game that gained a lot of traction, where you actually play as the psycho-maniac who killed his family – Visage.
Nevertheless, some time has passed since the premiere, and I understand that you may be looking for something new and refreshing. Hence, I am here to help you out! I’ve prepared a list of games similar to Visage. Let’s then relieve this nightmare again and again and see what we have in store!
Games Like Visage – The Scariest of the Scary!
What Is Visage?
Release date: October 2020
Developer: SadSquare Studio
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Meta Score: 81
If you have never heard of Visage, it’s truly a misunderstanding if you call yourself a fan of horror games! The game forces you to not only fight through the paranormal but also tame the beast inside you. The story is pretty rough, but let’s go over it. You step into the shoes of Dwayne Anderson, a person who shot his own wife and two children before committing suicide. Then, waking up in an empty room full of blood, he hears a voicemail from his neighbor, telling him that she hasn’t seen him in three weeks. Your home is now haunted by the people who have lived there.
The gameplay consists of three chapters where Dwayne tries to leave the house. Each one is supposed to navigate through the experiences of the previous inhabitants of the place. As he navigates through them, he’s starting to understand himself and them a little bit more. Everything is presented from the perspective of the first person, taking place in the haunted house you once lived in.
The game is heavily inspired by P.T., another game in the genre. It also reminds me of Amnesia: The Dark Descent regarding sanity levels of Dwayne. Here, you need to find keys to unlock the doors leading to other parts of the house, but you need to stay in light in order to avoid losing your mind. If you want to immerse yourself in this kind of storytelling – it’s one of the best games there is. Check it out if you haven’t already on Xbox, Playstation Store, Steam, or wherever you get your games!

Phasmophobia
Release date: January 2021
Developer: SitBack Games
Platforms: Microsoft Windows
Meta Score: N/A
Next, let’s check out Phasmophobia! It’s another paranormal investigation kind of game, but there is not as much of a personal touch as with Visage. Here, you didn’t murder your whole family in order to see some ghosts. In Phasmophobia, you just picked a rather weird line of work. In essence, you are a paranormal investigator with a lot of psychological torture and even more haunted places to see.
The best way to play this game is definitely with friends online. Only then will you see its potential to become a truly terrifying title. You can easily navigate through the paranormal situations with your EMF readers and cameras to fully document everything that happens during your adventure. I am not positive that anyone will take what you show them to heart, but it’s worth trying out.
While the game was initially published in 2020, it truly gained traction over time due to its cooperative gameplay, which propelled it into internet stardom. Featuring a four-player co-op, this aspect of the game undoubtedly contributed to its success.
Devour
Release date: January 2021
Developer: SitBack Games
Platforms: Microsoft Windows
Meta Score: N/A
Next up on our list, we have Devour, another paranormal investigation kind of game, and – another multiplayer title for you to enjoy. This time, we are not facing ghosts, as in the last two titles, but actual demons from hell trying to take everything from you. The fear is real, as we navigate the delicate structures of the past worlds!
Here, the gameplay more maze-focused, so you need to find ways to get out of the place you found yourself in. Additionally, there are a couple of puzzles for you to solve. As the demon gets more and more aggressive, be sure to do them rather fast, as you will not have much time to think around.
When it comes to similar games to Visage, it’s one of the closets, as you actually have to leave the house you’re in. The only difference is that in Devour, you don’t only need to stay alive but also defeat the monster in the process. You can do it with your friends online, at a local co-op, or offline, by yourself. The game is quite fun, as there are plenty of classic elements like jump scares, ghosts, audio scares, and plenty more! If you want to go demonic – this game is definitely for you!

Friday the 13th
Release date: May 2017
Developer: IllFonic, Black Tower Studios
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
Meta Score: 69
The next one on our list is the classic horror story we all know and love – a game based on the Friday the 13th movies. As you may have already presumed, this is based on a movie series that takes place in the camp. You can choose between two protagonists or, well, one antagonist and one victim – Jason Voorhees, the main villain of the series who chases teenagers around the park, or one of the counselors trying to escape his grasp. The main goal is to run away, fight Jason, or – murder everyone in your sight if you are the villain.
The game combines the best elements of both worlds, enhancing the original concept. You can experience the thrill of being the killer, wielding a machete, as well as the tension of trying to survive while being hunted in a remote camp. The idea is to solve different puzzles in order to find an escape route. It could be repairing a car or finding people to help you out. There are plenty of possibilities, and none of them are restricted to anything other than survival.
The game is based on the world of Jason Voorhees, so you will find many familiarities from the series. For example, the story takes place in the infamous Camp Crystal Lake, with references to the movies all over the place. If you’re a fan of the series, or you just survival horror games – this is surely a game for you. It's not the best game in existence, but for the fans of the series – it must play!

Five Nights at Freddy
Release date: August 2014
Developer: Scott Cawthon, Steel Wool Games, Illumix, Scottgames, Phisnom, Clickteam LLC USA, Illumix, Inc.
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Oculus Quest, Oculus Quest 2, Google Stadia
Meta Score: 80
Next, we have the Five Nights at Freddy’s. Getting a job these days is hard, and what worse outcome could you count on than Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza? When it comes to building suspense and creating, well, maybe not realistic characters, but definitely scary monsters – this is the top of the top.
It’s a pretty simple game at first and, well, every other glance as well. You got a job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, where people come for food and animatronic bears. Unfortunately, something is going on during the night. Even though the restaurant is still locked, it seems as if something happened during the night that changed the robots. Repair is hard, so the owners decided to give you the job of keeping an eye on the bears and seeing if anything suspicious is going on. And – there is quite a lot of that!
You are in charge of the cameras. Keep an eye on each bear as they move around the place. If you lose track of them – you’ll die. It’s a first-person horror and a psychological thriller as well. You need to be looking at bears at all times, so you need to have a sharp mind and even sharper fingers. Nevertheless, it’s great fun all around, and I definitely recommend it for all the scary game enthusiasts.
Pacify
Release date: February 2019
Developer: SKH Apps, SKH Apps, LLC
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Mac operating systems, Classic Mac OS
Meta Score: N/A
Another game on our list is Pacify. It’s a game that is quite like Devour or Phasmophobia in the way that it approaches the combat elements, still being a first-person horror experience, as in Visage. Here, you are, once again, a group of paranormal investigators on their way to pacifying a ghost living in a house. Seems simple enough for…no one, as ghosts tend to be rather problematic when it comes to leaving certain premises, so you will need some considerable effort to make them go away.
The game is essentially a co-op but also a competitive game, as there are plenty of investigators in the house who are trying to do the same exact thing – get rid of paranormal beings in the house. The spirit haunting this house in this PvP scenario is a rather unpleasant one, so you need to work together or against each other to succeed.
It’s a horror game at heart but also – a puzzle game in the brain. There are plenty of clues spread around the place, so you will have quite a lot of jump scares combined with puzzle-solving coming your way. I loved this title, and to tell you the truth, it’s much more fun than the reviews may be pointing to. Additionally, it features an excellent sound design!

And lastly, let's not forget GTFO! While it's a departure from Visage, it shares a similar vibe. GTFO adds guns to the mix, making it a real thrill ride! You play as a prisoner in an underground complex, tasked with missions by an enigmatic entity known as The Warden, all in the name of freedom.

Games Like Visage – Conclusion
In my search for the best games like Visage – those were my conclusions. You will find some faster and slower titles, but they all have one thing in common – they are extremely fun to get terrified of. We didn’t include Resident Evil games or Silent Hill, as those felt like just too far off from the main title at hand. Additionally, some niche games like Blair Witch were just not on our radar to be honest. In the end, this list is rather full when it comes to content, and I am happy to present it to you.
That’s it for today. If you liked this one, please let me know if there are other games like Visage that you played and enjoyed. And make sure to check out other articles on our site; we have quite a lot of great content for you to browse. Thanks for stopping by, and I will see you in the next one!
