Games Like Kingdom Come Deliverance – When Realism Meets Action!

Seems like everyone's buzzing about action games these days, especially the ones where you get to duke it out with swords and bows. The industry features plenty of incredible games where you're roaming around with massive weapons, laying down the law on all sorts of unholy hordes.
Of course, shooters, sports games, and even some indie genres are still going strong. Still, for some reason, since the Bethesda Game Studios created The Elder Scrolls games, people are obsessed with medieval-looking titles. Maybe it’s because they are much more dynamic than the other titles; you can impose some additional strategies and create great fighting sequences.
This list is here to spice things up with a dose of realism for those craving games akin to Kingdom Come: Deliverance. We're talking about titles that nail historical accuracy and deliver epic sword-fighting action. Let's get into it!
Games Like Kingdom Come Deliverance – When Realism Meets Action!
Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Release Date: November 2007, May 2021 (Legendary Edition)
Developer: Deep Silver, Warhorse Studios
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Amazon Luna
Meta Score: 76/100
Starting with – Kingdom Come Deliverance. Maybe you haven’t heard about this particular game, but there are plenty of things you can appreciate in this title. After the Holy Roman Empire had fallen, the Middle Ages started strong with some good Christian faith and some fantastic conflicts to observe.
It’s the authentic medieval experience, as you start from the bottom of the social hierarchy and slowly but surely climb up the ranks in order to become the lord you have always known you are. The beginning of the game is the introduction of our protagonist – Henry, who finds himself in a pretty interesting situation. As the son of a blacksmith, he was in a pretty particular moment in history. Charles IV has died. Medieval Bohemia is torn, as his son, Wenecaslas, is not doing the greatest of jobs. Hence, his brother, Sigismund the Red Fox, has decided to plunder the fatherland and take over!
Unfortunately, your village was on its way to plundering and got burnt in the process. Now, fueled with rage and resentment, you are trying to fight against the evil king of Hungary and take revenge for your loved ones. Thankfully, Lord Radzig Kobyla is recruiting soldiers who are supposed to fight on the fields and take on the Hungarian army.
When it comes to the sheer gameplay, it’s a fun title with a lot of RPG elements to it. The setting is the Middle Ages, but it is not a fictionalized version like Skyrim or Battle Brothers, but a more up-to-date version. With every fight, you can upgrade your skills and become an even greater soldier than Sigmund the Red Fox!
What really sets Kingdom Come: Deliverance apart is its attention to detail. You're not just swinging any old sword; you're wielding the same kind of blades they used back in the day. Same goes for the bows – they're straight out of the Middle Ages. It's like diving headfirst into the history books of Medieval Europe. That said, if you’re a history buff – it is probably the most fun game for you! So, if you want to carve your own path in the medieval world – you should definitely try this game out!

Medieval Dynasty

Release Date: September 2020
Platform(s): PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Microsoft Windows
Developer(s): Render Cube
Meta Score: 73
Another medieval-based game on our list is Medieval Dynasty. If you haven’t played it yet, it’s a fantastic title that shows you the harsh conditions of the Middle Ages that you have always wanted to explore. It’s a survival at first and all the other genres later. You can’t rush into battle on a white horse without thinking twice. You need to do, as most people in the Middle Ages, basic tasks that were the harsh reality of those times.
If you are a history buff, this is definitely something up your alley. You need to take care of such basic things as hunger and thirst and, well, staying safe. There are plenty of Sigmunds the Red Foxes out there, and let us tell you – most of them are not nice people who are only trying to help you out. Most of them want to raid and pillage your village, as the poet says, so make sure you are not surprised by their army.
The basic goal of this game is to actually create a dynasty and become the sole ruler of the lands. You can live with your children and continue the dynasty as your grandfather planned. There are no supernatural creatures like with other games on this list, but you can craft your very own shining armor and enjoy those medieval times on your own accord.

You start as a Christian Lord in the country of your choosing, and the rest is history. There are not many more games that you can find in the history of gaming that are so pinpointed in a particular place in history, where you can actually choose which place you could start from. Everything concludes in 1453, as it allows you to summarize all the things you managed to do in your journey. On your way there, you will meet dozens of historical figures and fight against, well, everything you would decide to fight against. God of War

Release Date: PlayStation 4 April 2018, Windows January 2022
Developer: Santa Monica Studio
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Windows
Meta Score: 94/100
And now, for something completely different! Once again, we're all about surprises, and what could be more surprising than delving into the rich and golden realm of Norse mythology? Enter God of War, where you can experience medieval-themed excitement in a world unlike any other. It's not your typical history lesson but rather a journey into the depths of Nordic lore, a realm you might have encountered if you've ever lived in or visited countries like Norway or Sweden.
It’s a father-son adventure that goes through Norse mythology while you murder all the Gods of the Midgard, similar to what you have done in your time at Olympus. It has some of the best visuals we have ever seen, incredible action, and a real family story that we did not really see coming, to be honest.
The whole story is all about the bond between Kratos and his son. To fulfill his dying wish, Kratos goes to the highest peak in all the Nine Realms in order to spread her ashes. During this journey, he finds that not all Norse Gods are happy about his arrival, and some are indeed trying to get the best out of him. So, as usual, the Ghost of Sparta goes on a rampage in order to, contrary to other games in the series – get some peace and quiet.
The gameplay centers on Kratos engaging enemies with a Leviathan Axe, reminiscent of Mjolnir, which he can throw and recall to his hand. It offers a more nuanced experience, allowing for intimate battles unlike anything you've experienced before. While it's slower-paced, it lends a sense of realism to combat not found in previous, somewhat more whimsical games. Moreover, it features RPG elements, allowing you to develop your abilities as you explore a richly detailed world teeming with heroes and adversaries. It's a game that's not to be missed!
There are plenty of similarities to Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Although it’s in a completely fictional world, it’s also in line with the Norse legends and very particular about all the gods and myths from that region. Additionally, fighting in this medieval-esque world is quite similar to what you can experience in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki, it can transfer you into the wonderful tale of betrayal, gods, and human weaknesses, which not many games can actually accomplish. It’s an experience that every gamer should at least feel once in their gaming lifetime.
In addition to the classic gameplay familiar to soulslike games, where you upgrade weapons, dodge attacks, and acquire increasingly powerful skills, Elden Ring offers a captivating narrative. Set in the world of Land Between, chaos reigns following the disappearance of Queen Marika, leaving the kingdom in turmoil. Now, her demi-god children vie for control of the continent, resulting in a struggle for supremacy unlike any other.

It’s the classic From Software You Died-kind-of-scenario, so you can only imagine how good it feels to finally beat the boss you’ve been trying to get a hold of for so many hours!
