It Takes Two was a massive phenomenon in the gaming industry in 2021. Its innovative and family-friendly approach made it suitable for people of all ages wanting to delve into the world of co-op games. This multi-award-winning title is known for its gameplay variety, original puzzle design, and wild setpieces. Hazelight Studios made it one of the best co-op games ever created, so no wonder people are looking for similar titles.
At RoyalCDKeys, we’ve compiled a list of fun co-op games to play with your friend or second-half. We also didn’t forget about enjoyable single-player titles that have a lot in common with It Takes Two. Moreover, these are the best games you can find for such attractive prices on our site!

We’re starting with Psychonauts 2, as it’s a direct competitor for It Takes Two. It won the Golden Joystick Award in 2021 as the best game for Xbox, so it’s definitely worth checking out. It’s full of suspense, laughs, and fun gameplay while taking on a big adventure. Sounds familiar?
The game features a hilarious story to uncover and a ton of absurd gags while completing its disruptive missions. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have any form of online co-op, but both games are so strikingly similar that it’s hard not to mention it.
You’ll be walking in the shoes of Razputin Aquato, a young psychic and acrobat. He finally fulfilled his dream of becoming a member of the international psychic organization, Psychonauts. However, being a part of the organization is not all bells and whistles, as he uncovers a deep conspiracy underneath the group.
The platforming aspect of the game is on-par or maybe better than in It Takes Two due to additional, unique mechanics. Raz can dive into people's minds uncovering their secrets and memories. It doesn’t have the emotional story of It Takes Two, but it’s a fun game where you’ll take on a hilarious, epic adventure. Psychonauts 2 proves that triple-A games can still be unique and original.
Psychonauts 2 Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Portal 2 might be the best co-op puzzle game of all time. I know it sounds a bit exaggerated, but Metascore speaks for itself. This video game was released over a decade ago and is still played by many when you look it up on the Steam charts. Operating opposite ends of a portal gun feel like casting a magical spell so no wonder it’s so popular.
The game has become even better than the first installment, which was unique enough. Portal 2 is built around co-op gameplay as it contains a separate multiplayer campaign that cannot be completed solo.
Although the game revolves around solving puzzles, the writing is excellent and has a memorable cast of characters. I can’t name any other game designed around riddles with such a captivating story. Let’s hope that it won’t meet the same fate as Half-Life 2 and that there will be a continuation.
- One of the best puzzle-solving games to date.
- Truly unique gameplay revolving around using portals.
- A separate multiplayer campaign, perfect for a co-op adventure.
- Release Date: 3 September 2013
- Developer: Ubisoft
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3/4, PlayStation Vita, Google Stadia, Wii U, Xbox 360/One

Side-scroll platformers are one of the best when it comes to cooperative play. Rayman has been around since 1995, so hardly anyone hasn’t heard of this limbless little guy. Rayman Legends comes back to its roots offering the best 2.5D experience. You can play solo or with up to four players.
Like almost every platformer, Rayman Legends is easy to learn but hard to master. There are 120 levels to complete, each with a different setting, atmosphere, and difficulty. You can't go back when you get into a flow of perfectly timed jumps that match up with the music.
This magical world will devour you entirely whether you want to game solo or invite someone for a couch co-op session. It’s one of my favourite games when I want to solve puzzles and defeat enemies in a cartoonish fashion. Shame that Ubisoft abandoned the series, but hopefully, it will come back someday.
Rayman Legends Ubisoft Connect Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.
- One of the best games in the Rayman franchise.
- Extremely fun to play solo or with a co-op partner.
- A fantastical world with 120 levels to complete.
- Various gameplay mechanics.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
- Release Date: 3 September 2013
- Developer: 505 Games
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3/4, Xbox 360/One, Nintendo Switch, iPhone/iPad
- Metascore: 90
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons was directed by the same developer behind It Takes Two. Before Josef Fares founded Hazelight Studios, he worked in Starbreeze Studios AB, making indie games. This game set a foundation for It Takes Two, as it also features two protagonists. However, the story is more tragic and mature than in the aforementioned title.
You’ll be taking over two brothers in a single-player co-op experience. Their journey is about finding a cure for their sick father before it’s too late. It’s a beautiful story about overcoming obstacles and going through the perils for the sake of someone else. I don’t want to spoil too much; it’s best to experience it yourself.
The game allows for a local co-op, where you’re going to control both brothers simultaneously. If you’re looking for similar games to It Takes Two, this one is almost identical mechanically. It’s a spiritual prequel and emotional platforming adventure that develops characters and mechanics continuously.
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.
- The game was directed by the same person behind It Takes Two.
- Emotional, and engaging storyline.
- Local, two-player co-op.
- Two protagonists.
A Way Out
- Release Date: 23 March 2018
- Developer: Hazelight Studios
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
- Metascore: 78
A Way Out is another game developed by Josef Fares, so its presence here is no surprise. It’s also only playable with a friend as a single-player campaign is not present. However, it focuses on more mature themes; thus, it’s not suitable for children. Many adult fans who haven’t played A Way Out will probably turn to it after finishing It Takes Two.
Two players are taking control of two prisoners – Leo and Vincent. Their main task is to escape prison by all means necessary. In order to succeed, they have to cooperate and complete various tasks. Over time, the two characters get to know each other better, and the story gets more emotional and action-packed.
It means that gameplay is dynamic and evolves over time. What’s more, the game supports Steam Remote Play which means only one player has to own the game – another player can join for free. Hazelight Studios should consider making more games in a similar fashion as they really know what they’re doing.
A Way Out Origin Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.
- The most mature storyline when compared to other games on this list.
- Excellent character development and gameplay mechanics.
- Steam Remote Play support.
- Same developers as for It Takes Two.
- Release Date: 9 June 2018
- Developer: Coldwood Interactive
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
- Metascore: 76
Unravel Two is arguably the closest relative to It Takes Two when it comes to aesthetics. A co-op game where you play as adorable characters made from arts and craft materials sounds pretty familiar. You can play Unravel Two in a local co-op or in single-player mode. The story is also “lightweight” and perfect for a chilling Sunday afternoon session.
You play as a magical creature called Yarny who’s embarking on a quest to awaken the world around him and help nature blossom. It’s perfectly fine playing solo, but Unravel Two shows its real potential when there are two players. The game becomes significantly harder as both of you must support each other in solving puzzles and facing multiple challenges. In two-player mode, not a single task can be completed solo. It’s a must-play for anyone looking for an exciting adventure and heartfelt story after completing IT2.
Unravel Two Origin Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.
- Similar aesthetics to It Takes Two.
- Single-player or local co-op.
- Emotional storyline.
- Game becomes more challenging when playing together.
- Release Date: 18 November 2011

Minecraft itself is not necessarily a puzzle-solving game, but its creation suite is one of the best ever created. You can create your own platforming game with puzzles to solve and enemies to fight with enough dedication. This is the strongest point of Minecraft – it’s already full of impressive creations since the game is over a decade old.
Luckily, you can still explore the world with your friends while gathering resources and surviving against deadly creatures if you’re not a creative type. It’s not the newest game on our list, but it delivers a wholesome experience due to its freedom and unique blend of different game genres.
Minecraft - Java Edition Official Website Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.
- Minecraft has one of the best creation suites ever made.
- It offers an online co-op mode as well as a single-player option.
- Thousand of servers with different biomes and mechanics.
Little Nightmares II
- Release Date: 11 February 2021
- Developer: Tarsier Studios
- Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch
- Metascore: 83
Little Nightmares II is a dark and mysterious adventure with a horror-like design. The unique environments, enemies, abilities, and overall gameplay perfectly fit the game’s dark story. We also chose it because of its outstanding narrative. It’s not a horror game by any means, but its aesthetic is more on the grim side.
The game features two characters working together to solve environmental puzzles and try to escape the nightmarish world. One of them is Mono – a young boy attempting to escape the bizarre world he found himself into. Six, a little girl wearing a yellow raincoat, is your guide. It sounds like a perfect title for up to two players online or in co-op.
Unfortunately, Little Nightmares II is a single-player experience. This may surprise some players, as the game does feature two characters working together trying to escape the nightmarish world.
It’s a mix of platforming, puzzles, and active combat set in a 2.5D world. As Mono, you can swing from certain objects, sneak by, break things, etc. More importantly, you have to protect Six and work together in solving puzzles and defeating enemies. When you sink into this world, lack of multiplayer is the last thing you’re going to complain about, trust me.
Little Nightmares II Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.
- A thrilling and suspense single-player adventure in a corrupted world.
- The next adventure of Little Nightmares features new abilities to overcome certain challenges.
- Work closely with Six to solve problems and complete objectives.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
- Release Date: 9 September 2015
- Developer: Asteroid Base
- Platforms: PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
- Metascore: 80
Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time is a cute, 2D space shooter where up to 4 players have to navigate a spaceship and destroy everything on their way. The game's premise is to destroy Anti-Love, the main villain who wants to cleanse the space of any romantic feelings. The story alone makes it a perfect title to play with your second half, although there’s hardly any romance going on.
At least you can see if both of you can cooperate, as the game forces players to attack adversaries and control the ship simultaneously. If two is not enough, you can play with up to four players where each of you controls one side of the ship.
There’s also a solo mode, where A.I. controls your partner, but Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is truly meant to be a cooperative gameplay experience. It reminds me of those online, flash mini-games but more advanced mechanically.
Unfortunately, it’s not equipped with online features, but if you have someone nearby to play with, this whimsical space shooter is ideal after finishing It Takes Two.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.
- Up to four-player local co-op.
- It requires perfect coordination between players.
- Upgradeable ships.
- Easy to learn, hard to master.
Super Mario Odyssey
- Release Date: 27 October 2017
- Developer: Nintendo
- Platforms: Nintendo Switch
- Metascore: 97
Super Mario Odyssey is a masterclass in the 3D platforming genre, as it brings out the best of every Mario game while adding new features on top. New players will simply enjoy the vast, vivid worlds with various activities to complete and never feel bored. On the other hand, veterans will stick around after the credits to unlock hundreds of challenges to test their dexterity.
There’s also an online multiplayer, so you can enjoy traversing Mario world together. Other than that, it’s a classic platforming experience where you have to solve puzzles, fight with enemies and avoid obstacles.
The only real downside is that Super Mario Odyssey is a Switch exclusive. On the other hand, it’s a must-have for every Nintendo gamer, and there’s hardly anyone who doesn’t possess this game already. An excellent alternative to It Takes Two if you want more fast-paced gameplay.
- One of the best Mario games to date.
- A vast world full of intriguing surprises.
- Online multiplayer.
- Doesn’t discard the core mechanics of older games.
Many games offer a similar experience to It Takes Two, but we wanted to include only the best ones according to our taste. Some of them didn’t quite make it to the final list, so we wanted to mention a few more games worth checking out. Keep in mind that some of them are console exclusives, thus not available on PC.
- Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition
- Super Mario 3D World: Bowser’s Fury
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure
- Monster Hunter Rise
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
