Games Like Genshin Impact – Best Anime RPGs Worth Playing!

Games Like Genshin Impact – Best Anime RPGs Worth Playing!

Genshin Impact is a global phenomenon. Just several weeks after its release, it made an outstanding $100 million in revenue with China, Japan, Korea, and the US – the biggest markets for gaming. What’s even more shocking, this anime-style MMORPG achieved those numbers while being a completely free-to-play game. Most of their income comes from in-game purchases, toys, gadgets, etc.

Genshin Impact fans are treated well, as the game features an intuitive combat system, seamless open world, and a decent storyline. The future is bright for Genshin Impact, and there’s nothing exactly like it.

However, plenty of games share traits in common with the popular release. That’s why we compiled a list of similar games to Genshin Impact. If you feel like you've achieved everything this open-world game offers, we come to the rescue!

Honkai Impact 3rd

  • Release Date: 26 December 2019
  • Developer: miHoYo
  • Platforms: PC, iPhone, iPad
  • Metascore: N/A

If you’re looking for similar titles to Genshin Impact, it’s best to start off with gacha games from the same developer. Heck, they even share similar titles! Honkai Impact 3rd is a sleeper hit and one of the most popular mobile games in the last 10 years. Even if you haven’t heard of it, just remember that gaming on Android and iOS devices is exceptionally popular in China, with about 660 million mobile gamers.

Instead of a medieval fantasy setting, the action takes place in the near future. Civilization owns highly developed technology powered by a mysterious energy. You become the captain of a squad of heroines who can be chosen according to your vision.

Over time, you unlock different characters who have their unique range of skills. The main goal is to eliminate more or less mechanized enemies and discover the truth about the world around you.

You can level up your heroines by simply playing or via in-game purchases. However, it’s unnecessary to spend real money, as Honkai Impact 3rd has a well-designed leveling system. New characters and better equipment can be achieved in no time.

The game also features a flawless real-time combat system reminiscent of some of the greatest action RPG titles from the Land of The Rising Sun. Fights take place in closed arenas against various opponents, including mecha-like robots and other people.

Over time, your combat skills improve, and you can unlock new abilities. It’s one of the best games like Genshin Impact, with unique characters, sprawling open worlds, and an interesting storyline. And it’s all from the same studio.

Key Features

  • One of the most popular mobile games in the last 10 years from the creators of Genshin Impact.
  • Very intuitive battle system.
  • Gacha system.
  • Anime art-style with greatly developed RPG gameplay.
  • Elemental powers similar to those from Genshin Impact.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

  • Release Date: 23 March 2018
  • Developer: Level 5
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4
  • Metascore: 81

Ni No Kuni II features an anime-like aesthetic and a vast, open-world to explore. Cooperation with Studio Ghibli was one of the best choices developers made, as its prequel was a highly acclaimed title by reviewers.

The newest addition, Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom is even prettier than its predecessors and improves its RPG elements. The game’s soft shapes, sharp lines, and bright colors are truly eye-pleasing and should appeal to most Genshin Impact fans.

We follow the fate of a young king Evan Pettiwhisker Tildrum, who was banished from his kingdom. Fate, however, brings a young hero Roland to the magical world, who decides to help him regain his rightful place. Unfortunately, other problems await them, as black clouds hang over the city of Ding Dong Dell – a terrible evil threatens the whole world.

While it’s certainly made for a younger audience, the gameplay is not childish. Apart from usual jRPG quests and combat, Ni No Kuni 2 features a Pokemon-style system where you collect creatures that will aid you in battle.

Apart from that, there’s a whole kingdom management system, where you upgrade key buildings and staff them with NPCs. It’s one of the few games than can incorporate so many mechanics without feeling out of place.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom - The Prince’s Edition Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • One of the most unique action RPGs with a Ghibli-like aesthetic.
  • Suitable for people of every age.
  • Kingdom management system.
  • Various game mechanics including Pokemon-like battles.

Darksiders 3

  • Release Date: 27 November 2018
  • Developer: Gunfire Games, THQ Nordic
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch
  • Metascore: 78

Darksiders 3 and Genshin Impact are opposite style-wise. One is bright and colorful, while the other is grim and dark. However, Darksiders 3 is highly inspired by the Zelda series, which means an open world to explore, challenging puzzle-based dungeons, and engaging combat systems.

In Darksiders 3, you take control of Fury – a female magician who embarks on a quest to bring balance between good and evil on Earth. In order to succeed, she must defeat Seven Deadly Sins and their minions. The story takes plenty from biblical stories and relies heavily on symbolism.

It’s an effective third-person slasher, with parkour-like movements and effective combat. The animations are fluid and remind me of titles like Devil May Cry and Nioh. The world is large but not to the point it's overwhelming.

Dungeons are clever and not overly long so they won’t feel repetitive at all. If you want a steppingstone from the colorful world of Genshin Impact where the game’s story is more gloomy and mature, Darksiders 3 is a perfect match.

Darksiders 3 Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • An excellent third-person slasher with fluid animations and various combos.
  • Grim and dark aesthetic.
  • Interconnected dungeons that can be freely explored.
  • A mature story that relies heavily on symbolism.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition

  • Release Date: 4 December 2020
  • Developer: Square Enix
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch
  • Metascore: 92

Our list wouldn't be complete without a legendary Dragon Quest. This game series started back in 1986 and is still going strong. This exact installment is a Metacritic's must-play and one of the best in the Dragon Quest series.

The game is set in the fantasy land of Erdrea. Our protagonist lives in the peaceful village of Ishi. On his sixteenth birthday, during a ceremony held to celebrate coming of age, the young man discovers that he is the embodiment of a hero who managed to save the world years ago.

A glowing mark has appeared on his hand, heralding a coming crisis. Since then, his future has been in doubt – so he sets out on a journey to seal his fate. Fortunately, he is not alone, as his faithful friends accompany him.

It’s a classic representation of what a good jRPG title should look like. It features a vast world, thousands of NPCs, side quests, advanced character progression, and turn-based combat.

Dragon Quest XI introduces numerous changes and improvements to the gameplay. Our protagonist can climb on many environmental objects; thus, locations have gained a new, vertical dimension.

The places we visit are varied – the adventure leads you through the idyllic countryside filled with blooming flora, desert areas, or even mountain peaks covered in snow.

The entire campaign takes about 60 hours to complete, which is ideal. The story is captivating enough and will leave you hooked until the very end.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • One of the best installments in the Dragon Quest series.
  • A classic jRPG experience.
  • Diverse environments – from lush forests to snowy mountains.
  • Entertaining story mode and dozens of side quests.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

  • Release Date: 26 July 2019
  • Developer: Intelligent Systems, Koei Tecmo Games
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch
  • Metascore: 89

Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo’s oldest franchises. The latest Fire Emblem game proves that this tactical turn-based RPG series has a lot to offer despite being around here for such a long time.

Your task is to gather a group of mighty warriors, cavalry, magic users, archers, and many other units and lead them to victory in tactical battles. It’s easy to take care of one hero, especially if it's the game's protagonist. But what about side characters? What about your healer? Or that archer who’s not as good as your main archer?

This is what Fire Emblem excels at – it forces you to care about everyone, even the smallest unit in your army. Also, for the first time in the series, the game features a nonlinear storyline where your decisions will affect its course. You can finish it multiple times, testing different strategies, battalions, and upgrades.

Gameplay-wise, there are better games similar to Genshin Impact. However, they share the same aesthetic, and unlike GI, you can play it at your own pace. If you’re still not convinced, you can try Fire Emblem: Heroes first, a free-to-play mobile game.

Key Features

  • A tactical turn-based RPG.
  • You have to take care of everyone, not only your main hero.
  • A plethora of different units.
  • Your decisions will affect the course of the game.
  • Four different endings.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising

  • Release Date: 3 December 2020
  • Developer: Ubisoft Quebec
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
  • Metascore: 77

Think of Genshin Impact set in ancient Greece with iconic creatures and characters from Greek mythology. Immortals: Fenyx Rising plays a lot like it but is set in a different universe. It also borrows heavily from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild.

For example, you can climb almost every solid surface, float objects above your head, fly around the map, etc. It was also made by the same team behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but with a more humorous approach, suitable for younger audiences. It’s perfectly portrayed by cartoonish aesthetic and spicy one-liners from Prometheus and Zeus.

When it comes to gameplay, you can feel that everything is polished and tested thoroughly, which is unlikely for Ubisoft (at least in recent years). Combat feels responsive, and open-world level design is top-notch. But what makes this title stand out is the colorful cast of the most popular characters from Greek mythology.

You can meet every god from Mount Olympus and other lesser-known personas from ancient Greece. Mix it with fast-paced combat and endless exploration, and you’ve found yourself one of the greatest titles like Genshin Impact.

Immortals Fenyx Rising EU Ubisoft Connect Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • Character designs based on Greek mythology.
  • A humorous approach, suitable for people of all ages.
  • Fast-paced combat and a vast, open-world to explore.
  • Many side activities to complete and collectibles to find.

Monster Hunter: World

  • Release Date: 9 August 2018
  • Developer: Capcom
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
  • Metascore: 88

Monster Hunter World is one of my favorite games that scratches the same itch as Genshin Impact. As a specifically trained monster hunter, your main task is to track and slay various beasts. It has many of the same components as Genshin Impact but is presented differently.

It features a beautiful world free to explore, various RPG mechanics, resource gathering, and great character building. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock new weapons and new skills to use on deadly monsters. The tough part is to actually reach that point as Monster Hunter World won’t hand-hold you during your playthrough.

The combat system is outstanding as it relies on dodging incoming attacks and waiting for an opening to strike. The creatures you’re going to face are diverse and range from rat-like animals to mighty dragons with powerful elemental attacks.

It’s an excellent alternative for most jRPG fans who may be tired of gacha mechanics. Despite its steep learning curve, the latest entry of Monster Hunter is widely considered the best, so you’re up for a fantastic experience.

Monster Hunter: World Steam Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • One of the best combat systems ever created.
  • Excellent monster design.
  • Rewarding gameplay despite its steep learning curve.
  • Expanded crafting system and RPG mechanics.

Final Fantasy XV

  • Release Date: 6 March 2018
  • Developer: Square Enix
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia
  • Metascore: 85

Final Fantasy XV shifted its core gameplay significantly as it's no longer a turn-based jRPG. For the first time in the series, you will experience real-time combat and chain combos with your party members. If you love Genshin Impact, you’re bound to enjoy the latest Final Fantasy adventure as well.

The Final Fantasy series is famous for its cinematic cutscenes, and the newest installment is no different. You’ll often feel like you’re playing a game movie instead of an action RPG. It’s an iconic element of every FF game, and luckily the story is captivating enough not to get overwhelmed by them. The relationship between Noctis and his companions is portrayed exceptionally well, and the plot between two kingdoms at war is equally entertaining.

Exploration of the world plays a significant role in the game. You can travel around the map in a car, controlled manually or by autopilot. However, you can get out of the vehicle and go off the beaten path, completing additional tasks and quests or searching for various secrets.

To sum it up, the game’s world is so intriguing and its characters so likable you’ll be playing for hours without even noticing.

Final Fantasy XV - Windows Edition Steam Key is available for purchase  on RoyalCDKeys.

Key Features

  • Real-time combat instead of turn-based encounters.
  • Intriguing storyline with a lot of cinematic cutscenes.
  • A lot of sidequests and secrets to be found.
  • You can travel around the world by car.
