Starting with – Five Nights at Freddy’s, of course! For those of you who did not play this terrifying game, let us tell you – it’s a must! The basic concept of this game is pretty simple. You got yourself a job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. It’s an entertainment for the whole family! People come for the food and great fun, as the bears are the additional attraction. Animatronic robots that please many during the day and bring a lot of fun to the people in the restaurant!

However…it seems that there is something going on with them in the night. And, well, the repairman will take the fortune to do the job, so as long as they are all right in the morning, the restaurant only needs someone to look after them during the night.

And hence – here comes your part. You got hired as a security guard to check if everything runs smoothly at night. Those animatronic robots need to stay in their place, so if anyone’s meddling with them, you will see it on one of the cameras in your place. And so it begins!

It’s a first-person horror game only from the name, as most of the time will be spent on the security cameras. The point is always looking at the bears, so they will not move around. If you miss one of them, you need to find where they went and keep them in their place, or else, well, they will come for you.

It’s a simple game, but what great fun it is! It’s frightening; the bear models are incredibly well-done; they look like some kind of psychological horror! It’s a twisted world with an eerie atmosphere, and as a night guard, you will have a lot of problems to face.

It may not be this open-world action-adventure game that everyone seems to enjoy these days, but for a few good runs, it gives you a lot of fun. It’s one of these great games that you play at parties and instill fear into your younger siblings. So, for all of the FNAF fans, let’s go over games similar to this one and see where the survival horror ends!

Phasmophobia

  • Release date: September 2020

  • Developer: Kinetic Games

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X and Series S

  • Meta Score: N/D

Starting with – Phasmophobia. It’s a horror game that combines what we all loved about Five Nights at Freddy’s – the utter horror and tension – with some psychological torture. It’s all that we have been waiting for! In this game, you take the role of a paranormal investigator rather than a night watch going on an adventure to investigate some haunted places.

Although you will probably not get to see Freddy Fazbear among the ghosts, you will meet a lot of problematic situations on your way. The main drive of this game is that it’s like Ghostbusters but serious. So, you will not joke around with your friends in some lakeside amusement park, feeling as if you’re invincible. You will probably die if you do so. This game is all about catching ghosts and not getting yourself murdered in the process, so take your EMF readers, get your cameras, and try to capture them!

It’s a game worth checking out after playing the FNAF series, as it’s a development of what you could see in the FNAF games. It may not be as deep as Silent Hill or so, but the game details what would happen if you actually got into the ghost-busting – the severe way.

It’s really similar to FNAF in the way it operates fear. Similarly to the restaurant, you need to find places where the evil is happening and stop it in its tracks, then go to the following location. Additionally, you collect evidence, lose friends, find friends, fight against evil monsters, and solve puzzles – everything you’d want from the Stranger Things kind of game. We Were Here Forever

  • Release date: May 2022

  • Developer: Total Mayhem Games

  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S

  • Meta Score: 81

However, in a different yet similar category, we have the We Were Here Forever ! The fourth game in the popular We Were Here series, where you need to work together to solve puzzles and get out of the Antarctic castle while having only walkie-talkies to communicate.

It’s an extremely social game where you take on the role of one of the survivors in Antarctica. You and your friend only have the walkie-talkies to communicate with each other, and you need to take care of several problems coming your way. Although it may not be 1:1 when compared to FNAF, the intensity in this game is pretty similar. We can safely say that this is one of the best representations of the co-op title done right.

It’s extremely important for you to understand what your friend is trying to convey and look for help in every single place possible. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoyed the tension that Five Nights at Freddy’s provided you with!

Pacify

  • Release date: February 2019

  • Developer: SKH Apps, SKH Apps, LLC

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Mac operating systems, Classic Mac OS

  • Meta Score: N/A

Another ghost-busting title on our list is Pacify, a co-op multiplayer game where you need to take care of paranormal problems in your everyday life. You are paranormal investigators who are all about making sure that there is no ectoplasm roaming around. And trust us – you will have your hands full of dirty work.

The main concept is simple – you and a couple of other paranormal investigators are trying to take care of the evil that is taking place in this house. And so – you need to ensure you will have the strength to fight against not only what comes from the land above but also – the ground we all step on.

You are up against the demons or ghosts but also other players trying to do the same thing as you do – get rid of the paranormal friends. So, you can slow them down, use tricks to mislead them, and collaborate with others to gain the upper hand.

Nevertheless, you need to also focus on pacifying the evil roaming around, so it’s a game that keeps on playing. The spirit that is haunting this house is definitely not the easy-going type, so if you want to be sure that you can catch it or get rid of it, you will have to gather some information and clues on how to get it under your control.

Compared to FNAF, you also have your fair share of jump scares here and there, and sometimes you don’t even know why you died – nevertheless – you did. It’s a great game to play around with, even if just for a few runs. In our opinion, it’s one of the most underrated titles on this list for sure!

Propnight

  • Release date: December 2021

  • Developer: Fntastic

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows

  • Meta Score: N/A

Another game that is so similar to Five Nights at Freddy’s that we had actually to check if this was not the same developer is – Propnight. As it turns out, it’s one of the best games regarding not getting yourself killed by inanimate objects since the release of FNAF.

So, what’s it all about? Well, it’s a puzzle solver and survival horror mix that you will definitely not forget about. One of the players is a Killer; the others are trying to escape the events that are about to happen. You can play with up to four players and, well, try to stay alive! The game ends when you manage to escape or when the time runs out. Even more, you get to transform into props as you repair propmachines all over the map, so it’s an extra element of fun you can implement into your play.

Although it seems like it’s lighthearted fun, this game is extremely scary and can make you run for your life if you find yourself in a dire situation. We can enjoy this kind of adventure for sure and encourage you to check it out as well!

Friday the 13th

  • Release date: May 2017

  • Developer: IllFonic, Black Tower Studios

  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

  • Meta Score: 69

The next game on our list is Friday the 13th, one of the scariest franchises ever created. Regarding similar games to our rainbow friends from Five Nights at Freddy’s – it’s as close as it gets. The gameplay is quite similar to what we have seen in the Propnight, the only difference being the main character – Jason Voorhees. A ruthless killer who takes on teenagers is a scary being who is hoovering over the park, and, as said teenagers, you need to find a way not to get murdered by them.

There are a couple of ways that you can accomplish that. For starters, you can try to escape Jason by repairing a car, trying to call for help, or even fighting the threat itself! As counselors, each one of you has a variety of different actions you can take to help the cause. But – with great powers come great responsibilities, so each has disadvantages.

The game is highly cooperative and competitive, as one of you will have to be an evil killer. You need to work together in order to escape the evil-doer and create a plan to ensure your victory. The great addition to this title is definitely the franchise behind it. Jason’s story and all the cultural baggage that comes with it, it’s just something completely out of the ordinary. For sure, it’s one of the more interesting games on this list, and we can definitely recommend it to the FNAF fans for sure!

Hunt: Showdown

  • Release date: August 2010

  • Developer: Crytek

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5

  • Meta Score: 81

Another interesting game that we can recommend if you like Five Nights at Freddy’s is Hunt: Showdown. It may not be a literal 1:1 kind of game, but we can assure you that if you enjoyed FNAF, you will have a lot of fun with this title as well. It’s a pretty dark universe set in the 19th century, where a group of hunters is trying to capture monsters who are all over the swamps. While also fighting off the other players who are trying to do the same.

The bounty on those monsters is pretty high, so you can understand why people are risking their lives in order to get those bounties. For sure, this is one of the more good-looking titles on this list. It was created by Crytec, developers behind such titles as Crisis or Far Cry, so you can bet that they have spent a lot of money and time on the visual element of the game.

That's not to say that the title is bad regarding the gameplay. Dare we say – it has a lot of creative weapons that you can use, madness spread all over the swamps, and a brilliant isolation feel that you can only get from the best of the best horror games. Death is imminent, and the nightmares are roaming freely. You can hide or try to kill your enemies in the hope that this is the last combat you will have to endure before fighting the monsters themselves. Whether you prefer to go solo or fight within a group, the choice is yours. Just be sure to check out this title!

Slender: The Eight Pages

  • Release date: June 2012

  • Developer: Parsec Productions

  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, OS X

  • Meta Score: N/D

Finally, we have a novelty title on our hands at the end – Slender: The Eight Pages, also known as just Slender or Slenderman. It’s a game that you just have to play if you didn’t do it before checking out the FNAF. It’s the same kind of internet sensation that FNAF was only a couple of years back. Here, instead of fighting against evil bears, you go around the collect pages while trying not to get murdered by the weird-looking, slender-person.

Similarly to the FNAF, Slender gained popularity due to many people playing it and positing reaction videos online. It was a cultural phenomenon back in the day, and we can safely say that you will have a lot of JUMP SCARES playing this game.

Games Like Five Nights at Freddy’s – Conclusion

And that’s pretty much it! As you can see, there are plenty of titles you can play if the bears at Five Nights at Freddy’s are not scaring you anymore (JUMP SCARE THAT IS DISPROVING THIS POINT).

We tried to find the very best of the best, but we had to miss out on some titles. For example, we felt like the evil spider train that was spoofing Thomas the Tank Engine was just a little bit too much for our taste. Nevertheless, we stand by our picks and recommend each one of them as a great title, at a great price!
