Of course, we recommend checking out both titles, but if you have not played any of those and want to find out the best, we have got you covered (no English subtitles necessary). Let’s dive into the clash between Far Cry Primal and Ark: Survival Evolved!
Far Cry Primal vs. Ark: Survival Evolved – The Best Dino-Survival!
Round 1 – Open World
Let’s start with something that both games are known for – the open world. Each one presents a fascinating and magical place full of wonders where you need to fight to stay alive. Both allow you to roam free and explore it on your own accord. So, which one of these games did it better? Let’s find out.
Far Cry Primal
Starting with Far Cry Primal, we have prehistoric times and a world full of challenges. You are a warrior named Takkar, who is desperately trying to survive in the harsh conditions, doing what he can best – giving his 100%. So, to stay alive, you need to explore the prehistoric lands, gather resources like food and water, build a settlement for your people, tame wild beasts, and make your tribe happy.
The game has a lot of things for you to explore, with breathtaking wilderness for you to enjoy, lots of side-quests, and enemies that will do everything in their power to stop you from achieving your goal. The world is filled with fantastic beasts and humans, and it feels like a living and breathing experience. Worth recommending.
Ark: Survival Evolved
And here, we have something similar yet different. The world in Ark: Survival Evolved is a war. Here, you must build a settlement, hunt, and gather resources to survive, which is the game's primary goal. Exploration can be fun, but plenty of other players can help you quickly end that part of the game.
It’s much more demanding in that regard, as you play around 50 000 people online on S, so you need to make educated guesses on how to approach survival while still staying alive.
Verdict
And that’s a pickle! Both games are proposing something exciting regarding the approach to the open-world concept.
While Far Cry Primal seems to be more classic in how it goes about the issues, with side quests and hunting grounds for you to explore, Ark: Survival Evolved presents something completely different.
Ark emphasizes survival and multiplayer aspects. So, in that comparison, we feel like the open world in Far Cry Primal feels more relaxed.
Round 2 – Role-Playing Elements
Next, we have the role-playing elements of both games. Both are known for proposing exciting concepts regarding your character development. Those elements enhance the experience in many ways and give you a well-deserved immersion into the games. So, let’s find out which one did it better.
Far Cry Primal
Starting with Far Cry Primal, we have the progression of our one-and-only – Takkar. The immersion is pretty apparent as you get to play as him and gather resources, while people around you address you as such. It’s a relatively straightforward thing. You decide where you allocate resources, your tribe members will appreciate it, and the story revolves around you, so getting involved in the character progression is easy.
Ark: Survival Evolved
On the other side of the spectrum, we have Ark: Survival Evolved, which is much more of a survival-of-the-fittest approach. You are one of the many survivors stranded on an island of futuristic dinosaurs.
Surviving in this environment filled with both PvP and PvE action requires gathering resources, constructing shelter, and defending against numerous threats. Given these challenges, forming alliances and making friends is essential for your safety and progress. Joining tribes and other survivors is the easiest way of not getting yourself killed. But – the world does not revolve around you like in the usual single-player gaming style.
Verdict
Because of all the conditions above, we just have to give it to the Far Cry Primal. If everything depends on you and is focused on you, you are much more likely to immerse yourself in the world. In Ark, it’s much more survival-oriented gameplay, where gamers must focus on what they can do to avoid getting killed rather than feeling like a real survivor on an island.
Round 3: Story
But what could it be if not for the beautiful story we will get to discover? Many people play games to get into exciting narratives full of outstanding and exciting situations that happen to our beloved characters! Let’s now dive into the story aspect of both games and see what they have to offer!
Far Cry Primal
In Far Cry Primal, you are playing Takkar, a hunter who, due to rather unpleasant circumstances, became the last surviving member of his hunting group. So, he needs to start a new life and survive in a world full of dangers and other tribes aiming to murder him. His quest is simple: build a new village, reunite with his people, and survive. Also, this mystical aspect of this world has to be explored even further!
Ark: Survival Evolved
Ark: Survival Evolved, on the other hand, uses the famous “stranded-on-the-desert-island” mechanic widely spread among plenty of survival games. The main goal of Ark is to survive, so the more elements you discover, the more you learn about this world. You get to find out more about the people who originally colonized this place, how they lived in peace, how the Nerva’s tribe “New Legion” rose to power and, well, let’s not spoil everything, but there’s a lot to discover.
There is no linear story you can follow; everything feels more open-ended, and the idea of a futuristic world filled with dinosaurs is incredible. Your actions can influence the storyline, so make sure that you control how you approach the world.
Verdict
In our opinion, Ark just gives you more potential regarding storytelling. Although the plot in Far Cry Primal is centered around one person, it does not seem to go anywhere nearly as in-depth regarding the lore and storytelling as Ark: Survival Evolved. The world of Ark is just much more interesting to explore, with a lot of twists and turns that Far Cry Primal lacks. Point for Ark!
Round 4 – Survival
So what about the survival in these survival games? How does it play out? Ultimately, it’s all about not getting eaten or killed, so it’s an integral part of both games. Let’s see what the ins and outs are when it comes to this aspect in both of these titles.
Far Cry Primal
Starting with Far Cry Primal, we have the single-player experience of a beautiful prehistoric world full of dangers! Here, you need to think fast if you don’t want to die, get eaten, or worse – get captured by another tribe. So, in order to survive, you need to craft weapons, build settlements, and fight off all the predators. You gather rocks wood, reeds, and other resources in order to craft Bows and Spears, but also – food and ammo-related equipment. When it comes to settlements, you build caves to sleep in and places to restrain yourself from roaming dinosaurs. The game is mostly story-driven, but the survival elements are also a big thing in the gameplay.
Ark: Survival Evolved
Unlike the Ark, where it’s all about survival! Here, you need to take care of all the dinosaurs and other creatures before they get to you, or tame them, ride on them, and fight off other players trying to do the same.
The world is full of dangers that you can approach alone or with a little help from your friends. You need to gather resources and build shelters as the main thing you will do in this game, so make sure you do it to the best of your abilities. The whole concept of crafting in Ark is to gain Engram Points in order to unlock Craftable Engrams. The higher level you are with it, the more things you are able to craft. With dozens of resources, and even more things to craft, you can have a whole day spent just tweaking things here and there. But remember, it’s not only the dinosaurs you will be fighting against. It’s also other players, so make sure that you will get them while you can.
Verdict
The verdict is pretty simple in that regard. Ark: Survival Evolved gives you a lot more possibilities regarding different threats awaiting you in the game. You have the giant dinosaurs that can be friends or foes; the same goes for the other players.
It’s just a lot of content in one game. On the other hand, we have Far Cry Primal, which also offers more-or-less the same kind of survival mechanics and threats, but it’s all part of the story-driven narrative rather than simply the survival element of the game. Of course, it does not mean that it’s done poorly or you should pay no attention to it whatsoever, but it’s just not as good as in the Ark, where it’s the main focus.
Round 5 – Graphics
And finally, we have the graphics department. It’s always a controversial category for a few reasons. One group, die-hard gamers, will always tell you that the graphics mean nothing without a good gameplay experience.
Others will argue that it’s all in the eyes of the beholder, and some people will like one thing and some another. In our opinion, it’s fun to play a game that looks good, and additionally – it can be sometimes comparable The giant leap we've taken in technology in recent years serve a purpose: people enjoy witnessing superbly designed graphics, and that's precisely what these two games strive to deliver as well.
Far Cry Primal
Far Cry series has always been big on groundbreaking graphics and realistic portrayals of the world. It’s no different in this installment. Here, you get the rich landscapes of the Stone Age, filled with details and lush flora and fauna. Add to it the realistic characters, great lighting, and one of the best-looking atmospheres, and you have yourself an immersive experience full of beautiful scenery. It’s really a captivating world that many can attribute to how detailed the whole thing was designed. Far Cry Primal runs on the upgraded version of the Dunia 2 engine, so you can expect a lot of depth to the environment around you.
Ark: Survival Evolved
Ark, on the other hand, does not seem to be that bothered by the realism while focusing on the fantastic elements of this design. Here, the designers thought – we could go for realism, that’s for sure, but also – LET’S DO SOMETHING INCREDIBLE! So – they did.
The world feels unnatural in how fantastical it’s portrayed; everything is dynamic, with plenty of environments to go through, jungles, mountains, and oceans that you can access in the game. But, where the game excels is definitely in its portrayal of the dinosaurs. Those are some of the most impressive creatures that roam the gaming world, and no wonder why so many people decided to get involved with that game.
Verdict
In our opinion, it should be a draw, as both games provide you with some interesting styles of graphics design, but, as there has to be a winner, we are slightly more impressed with Ark: Survival Evolved World. It’s not that the world of Far Cry Primal looks bad, but if you are going for the whole over-the-top dinosaur riding experience, why not go all out? So, in this category, the winner is – Ark: Survival Evolved, but let us assure you – it was a really close call!
Far Cry Primal vs. Ark: Survival Evolved – Verdict
So, we have the winner! In this fight, we can point to the slightly better Ark: Survival Evolved, but only on the account that – you just need to create some buzz around those clashes; it wouldn’t work the other way around!
We can tell you as much – both games have amazing graphics; in both games, you need to fight through the hostile environment in order to combat the giant creatures, and in both games, you need to survive to the best of your abilities. As every gamer knows, it’s up to you what kind of gaming feels more immersive.
So, don’t wait; check both of them! We highly recommend those titles, as they are one of the best open-world games ever created. The only downside is that you can’t play them both simultaneously.
