Best Far Cry Game - The Hardest Choice To Make

Best Far Cry Game - The Hardest Choice To Make

One of the best Ubisoft franchises is Far Cry. Unlimited action, drama, injuries, cars exploding, what else can you ask for? No other series – besides Assassin’s Creed or RE – has tried to come up with so many titles while delivering unforgettable experiences, according to critics.

But, with over a decade of games, how can you choose one to play?

Here, we have developed a ranked list of Far Cry games based on their popularity, dialogs, and in-game features. Enjoy!

12. Far Cry Primal

Primal is one of those games that will remind you of prehistoric times. Sometimes it’ll also feel like you’re in Jurassic Park – but you are the food instead of the goat.

The game brings something different to the extensive list of Far Cry games. Compared to the other titles, you won’t have modern weapons here. You are a caveman trying to survive in the extensive lands somewhere on Earth.

You’ll have your instincts to move through nature, but that won’t be enough. You’ll have to move quickly, quietly and find shelter with other cavemen if you want to survive.

Primal has incredible visuals of an old planet similar to movies and brings new things such as:

  • Using spears, bows, stones, and other prehistoric weapons.
  • Meeting the old “civilizations” that the human family tree developed to survive.
  • Fighting against gigantic beasts.

The game seems great, but it will eventually tire you out because it doesn't have a concrete storyline or entertaining dialogues.

11. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

It’s a common thing to see sequels or spin-offs in Ubisoft games. And Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is one of those.

This is a funny yet unnecessary sequel to Far Cry 3. It involves a future where you’ll fight bright dragons, robotic creatures and use futuristic weapons to make your way. We must admit that it has a great soundtrack and follows similar mechanics as Far Cry 3.

The downside is that, as a PC game, it doesn’t have a good storyline. It’s more like a futuristic version of Doom that you’ll enjoy for a while.

10. Far Cry Vengeance

This is the first game and DLC Wii adaptation that got terrible results. In comparison to other games in the series, the release of this game was a bad moment for both the Far Cry franchise and Wii supporters.

The game had bugs, choppy visuals, lag, and it didn’t live up to the name of the rest of the games.

9. Far Cry Instincts: Predator

Predator is a Far Cry edition released for Xbox 360 that includes both Instincts and Instincts: Evolution. This game is graphically enhanced and includes even more multiplayer game modes. It also adds a map editor to create custom experiences with friends.

If you’ve played the games mentioned above on other consoles or in the PC version, you know what it's all about. After all, it’s a sort of a “remake” for Xbox users.

8. Far Cry Instincts: Evolution

Evolution is a DLC that begins right where Far Cry Instincts ended. You start taking care of a deal with pirates, but – as usual – it all “went to the left” and scaled up quickly. As usual, you must use Jack and his feral abilities to find your way out of Micronesia.

But it won’t be easy. This time most enemies also have enhanced skills, so they will challenge you.

This title was released to give gamers a few more hours of adventure while waiting for Far Cry 2. So, mechanics and gameplay are overall the same in comparison to the first video game. The only change you can see here are new online game modes that the devs added.

7. Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2 is the best shooter game from the franchise, but it’s an underestimated title compared to the rest.

It takes an entirely different approach from the original game. This time, you won’t see aliens and strange abilities. Instead, you’ll have a serious shooter game that centers on the war in Africa. This game is considerably more complex than other titles because:

  • You have Malaria. This affects your overall health.
  • Your weapon gets jammed repeatedly while fighting enemies.
  • Fire spreads in every direction and lasts longer than in any other game.
  • High-caliber bullets can go through the walls.
  • Playing at night is harder than other titles.

Besides this, you also have to count the lack of a serious villain in the narrative. So, you will have the hardest franchise game to spend hours in, but you won’t have an iconic “bad guy” like in the typical series.

This amazing game is worth a remake if developers can keep all the mechanics.

6. Far Cry 6

Far Cry doesn’t have a breaking point in comparison to other games. It follows the same gameplay dynamics as Far Cry 5, but Ubisoft added slight improvements.

Instead of a continent, you are – once again – on an immersive island with incredible landscapes that resemble the first game and the iconic Far Cry 3. Ubisoft Toronto made sure to include a despot tyrant similar to Joseph Seed but with a different edge that will probably make you hate him most.

Far Cry 6 now introduces new features such as:

  • Biggest Far Cry map in the entire series.
  • Animal companions that will go through hell with you.
  • Horses are now available. You can use it as a regular ride for each trip.
  • Vehicles are customizable. As in every Far Cry, you can use different automobiles and upgrade them as you like. Create unique modifications!
  • Create new weapons. You can build weaponry from scratch, like spears or fire guns.

As of the latest release, fans were expecting more changes – which didn’t happen – the new features are a surprise for PC and console players.

5. Far Cry New Dawn

Far Cry New Dawn is another spin-off in the FC franchise. This time, it’s set in Hope County from Far Cry 5, but 17 years after a nuclear apocalypse. Gamers can see how the world has changed for citizens in comparison to the main game.

You don’t have a lot of changes, only people, some weapons, and the environment. You will feel like you are back in the stone age but with new technology.

New Dawn, as a direct sequel to FC 5, brings the first female protagonists to the game, which is why this title is known.

Now, one thing is certain; gamers will delight themselves with how colorful the apocalypse could be.

4. Far Cry

Far Cry is the first installment of the game. It’s the first not developed by Ubisoft but by Crytek. As the original Far Cry game, you can’t expect it to be as polished as the following titles.

The game is centered on Jack Carver; a soldier sent to an archipelago to find a journalist. The island is filled with mercenaries, animals, and strange creatures that resemble aliens from Half-Life.

We have to recognize that this “alien” thing doesn’t add up to the essence of the game. However, the first Far Cry brought a unique touch to the market.

Back in the day, it was an enjoyable title that even now is a pleasure to go back to. The only thing we could say you would hate is the difficulty and static gameplay common in old video games.

3. Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4 followed a similar approach to FC 3 – it’s evident after its incredible performance. This title is set in a fictional territory in the Himalayas, the Province of Kyrat. You’ll play as Troy Baker, a young man who lost his mother while exploring his vengeance story towards Pagan Min, a despot dictator.

Since it follows the same mechanics as the previous game, you will find it familiar in comparison to other titles of the franchise. There are relevant changes and features such as:

  • Gyrocopter piloting.
  • Riding elephants.
  • More chaotic shootouts.
  • Side missions aren’t as important as in other games.

Here, the perks' relevance starts to pass to the background, which means that you won’t see important improvements to your character as you level up and gain abilities. The map is as big as others but with a storyline that will chill your bones.

If you love nature, battling some evil human enemies, stealth, and a first-person shooter game, this is the right place for you.

This is a top-notch title in the Xbox One - PS4 generation.

2. Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is another title that is part of the best Far Cry games in the franchise. It was released six years after the previous title, so it’s safe to say it’s also part of the later installments. This new game in the FPS genre with an impressive open world opened the door to even more ambitious projects.

This game takes a different approach and takes you to the lands of a seriously messed up USA. You are a sheriff going to Hope County in Montana to defeat a cult of religious self-entitled people that claim to be the ultimate salvation. Divisions led to a civil war and brutality within the county.

Instead of an easy, routine day, your operation turned out to be a mad max-like experience – and you get caught up in the territory.

Now, with the help of people that reject this cult, you start to shake things up with machine guns, “animal amigos” and incredible wilderness experiences.

So, you’ll get to do it while you explore the no-man lands of Hope county. For example:

  • Destroy enemy outposts.
  • Instigate the main villain to attack you.
  • Complete side quests.
  • Live in dangerous wildlife.
  • Make other people join your cause.
  • Avoid cultists from talking to others.
  • Combat enemies trying to kidnap people.

The game also introduces new gameplay features, such as a complete multiplayer campaign. Meaning that – unlike previous titles like Far Cry 4 – you can join up to 4 players and start playing, hunting, finding new guns, and more.

1. Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3 takes the trophy for being the favorite Far Cry game. This title is one of the fathers of the current open-world games because it brought new playability, extensive missions, unforgettable characters, heartbreaks, and more.

The game takes place in a tropical archipelago. You are Jason Brody, a young man having fun with your brother and friends. After having a great time on a – fictional – island, you are captured by natives and the worst guy of them all, Vaas Montenegro. This vicious character will make you run throughout the enemy territory in an evil game while trying to kill you.

After escaping, you will have to wander this dangerous land and:

  • Help natives recover their land.
  • Gain power and tattoos.
  • Hunt wild animals or be hunted.
  • Use different weapons.
  • Engage against human enemies.
  • Save your friends from a cruel destiny.
  • Conquest of enemy camps.

The thing about Far Cry games is that there’s always a plot twist – whether you may or may not see it coming. In this case, you’ll face a difficult decision that will change the course of your character’s history.

The game is available for all platforms, from older game consoles to new-generation PCs. Multiplayer modes are also available, but you can’t play in complete cooperation.

Best Far Cry Game - Summary

After long consideration of the best Far Cry game, we can plainly say that Far Cry 3 is the best of the entire Far Cry franchise.

Its new gameplay, story, missions, and versatility gives this game a new feeling compared to past titles and open the door to the new Far Cry formula that we all love.

However, that doesn’t mean that the rest of the Far Cry series isn’t good. On the contrary, this saga has one of the best stories in all the games. And being one of the first open-world games, its influence on the gaming world is undeniable.

Ubisoft made sure that fans could enjoy, empathize and feel the insanity of their characters' development. With memorable plot twists and must-have vendettas, Far Cry games are a franchise that players can always come back to.
