10. Fallout 76 (2018)

A character stands with their dog in Fallout 76

  • Release Date: November 14, 2018
  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
  • Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
  • Metascore: 52

Fallout 76 is an action role-playing game and the last title of the Fallout series. It’s a prequel explaining many of the basic events that happen before the previous games of the franchise.

Unlike other Fallout games, Fallout 76 is the first multiplayer game of Bethesda Game Studios. As such, you can play solo or with other up to three players. The game takes place in an open game world torn apart due to a nuclear war. This world is four times bigger than the world of Fallout 4.

You can freely explore this world called “Appalachia,” which is a representation of West Virginia State.  This map includes some famous and real-life locations, such as the West Virginia State Capitol, the New River Gorge Bridge, and Camden Park.

Just like in the vast majority of role-playing games, your can create your own character. They have several attributes: strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, and luck. You can level up these attributes by spending skill points on a scale of one to fifteen.

You can also choose perks to gain gameplay bonuses as trading cards. You can also merge equal cards to create more powerful perks.

Some of the weak points of Fallout 76 involve the lack of NPCs, a lot of bugs, and many side quests that are broken. All the survivors were other players. The Fallout fan did not like this. Currently, there are many NPCs with which you can interact for several reasons.

Fallout 76 Steam CD Key is available on RoyalCDKeys.

9. Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel

  • Release Date: January 14, 2004
  • Developer: Interplay Productions
  • Publisher: Interplay Productions
  • Platforms: PlayStation 2, Xbox
  • Metascore: 64

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is the fourth main installment of the Fallout saga. This was the first game released for consoles and the last developed by the original studio, Interplay Productions, before Bethesda acquired the saga. This is one of the main reasons why it’s ranked in this position: this game seems like it was made in a hurry!

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel differs in many ways from the previous chapters of the franchise. In the first place, its gameplay is linear, i.e. it does not feature an open world that you can explore freely. Instead, you’re confined to one location at a time.

Besides, you can’t customize your main character. Instead, the player takes control of one of the six playable characters: Cyrus, Cain, Nadia, Patty, Rhombus, and the Vault Dweller.

Stills, the game features the original SPECIAL system of seven attributes: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck. These attributes have assigned numeric values, which govern most interactions in the game.

Brotherhood of Steel features real-time action combat in an isometric view, just like previous titles of the saga. You’ll have to find your way to different scenarios, and rooms, talking with several NPCs who will give you quests and clues to complete your mission.

The plot features the Brotherhood of Steel, a militant quasi-religious organization that rules the game world after the nuclear war. Your main mission is to discover what is happening in the Wastelands, search for missing Paladins, and destroy the radscorpions, among other missions.

Due to the many changes that Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel features, many fans of Fallout consider it a bad game. The repetitive gameplay and the boring battle contribute to this opinion. What’s more, much of the game felt like playing an expansion of the Fallout Tactics.

8. Fallout Pinball

  • Release Date: December 6, 2016
  • Developer: Zen Studios
  • Publisher: Zen Studios
  • Platforms: Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One
  • Metascore: 80

In 2016, Bethesda released an interesting pinball collection called Bethesda Pinball. This collection, as expected, is different from other franchise games since it involves pinball gameplay without survivability or RPG elements. This game contains three pinball tables based on three major Bethesda games: Doom, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Fallout 4.

Despite this, the Bethesda Softworks Fallout game is mainly based on Fallout 4, it contains many features that have appeared in previous Fallout titles. This is the first game of the saga playable on a Nintendo System as well as the only Fallout media to be awarded an Everyone 10+ rating by the ESRB.

In Fallout Pinball, the main goal is to explore the Wastelands by embarking on several quests to get Vault-Tec bobbleheads and siding with any of four factions: The Commonwealth Minutemen, The Institute, The Brotherhood of Steel, and The Railroad in a traditional supply of three balls.

At the beginning of the game, you choose the gender of your character, the SPECIAL stats, and a companion. There are five possible companions: Dogmeat, Codsworth, Strong, John Hancock, and Nick Valentine.

Fallout Pinball is no like any other game of the franchise, and the truth is it can be a bit repetitive, without interesting aspects. Still, some Fallout fans will enjoy this game since it expands the lore and the universe of Fallout.

7. Fallout Shelter

Several room in Fallout Shelter

  • Release Date: June 14, 2015
  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios / Behaviour Interactive
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
  • Platforms: Android, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, iOS
  • Metascore: 63

Fallout Shelter is another of the spin-offs of Fallout and the seventh overall game in the Fallout series. This is a free-to-play installment available for mobile devices and consoles. Fallout Shelter features a construction and management system that allows you to create your vault and become the overseer of its inhabitants.

As a simulation game, you run a Vault-Tec Corporation vault as the overseer. Your task is to manage several resources in the shelter, such as food, water, and power, and improve its general conditions. To do this, you must increase the vault's size by building and upgrading new rooms. This way, you create your own space and story.

You can build a total of 23 rooms, which are unlocked by increasing the number of dwellers. Each room has limited inhabitants, an operator linked to it, and a special skill to run its major efficiency.

Regarding dwellers, they are necessary to run operation functions, reproduce and protect the vault from deathclaw and raiders and scavenge the Wastelands. You can increase the number of dwellers by pairing two mates, waiting for them to show up at random, getting them from lunchboxes, or producing a radio studio.

You can also send vault dwellers to explore the Wastelands to get extra armor, caps, and weapons. It’s also possible to send them to fight to gain some special items. Besides, you can equip the dweller with stimpaks at the start of the mission.

Fallout Shelter was overwhelmingly acclaimed by the Fallout fanbase as it addresses the Fallout universe from a different point of view.

Some of the weak points is that Shelter is very slow-paced early. In some moments, it can feel a bit like watching paint dry. Besides, its lack of exploration makes it a not so interesting Fallout Game.

6. Original Fallout (1997)

Fallout 1997 screenshoot

  • Release Date: October 10, 1997
  • Developer: Interplay Productions
  • Publisher: Interplay Productions
  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, MS-DOS, Mac OS, OS X
  • Metascore: 89

This is the first Fallout game of the franchise and where everything starts.

Original Fallout is a role-playing game for computers played from an isometric perspective. It takes place 84 years after some nuclear bombs destroyed the civilization and turned Earth into a desert. It’s the year 2161, and you must venture out into the Wasteland to look for a computer chip that can protect Vault 13, the shelter where the protagonist lives.

As you can imagine, this is the original game that starts with most features you can find in modern Fallout games, such as the 50s art and media.

The original Fallout features many RPG elements that are characteristics of the original Fallout games, such as the possibility of creating your character and customizing their attributes.

The game’s story involves interacting with many other survivors. Some of them will give you quests, which you must complete to get relevant items for the story. During gameplay, you can gain experience points by completing various actions, which you can use to level up and increase your skills. Every three levels, you can provide yourself with a special ability of perk. To use these abilities, you require to reach a specific level.

Fallout (1997) features turn-based combat with an action-point system. You have a determined quantity of action points, which you must use to perform different actions during your turn. Every action consumes different amounts of points. You can acquire and use a wide range of weapons that can target specific areas of enemies.

If you like classic role-playing video games, this is the game for you. A game that started with the Fallout universe and built the bases for all the games of the franchise.  For this reason, this Fallout game is ranked in the middle of this list.

Fallout Steam CD Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

5. Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel

Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Stell screenshot

  • Release Date: March 15, 2001
  • Developer: Micro Forté
  • Publisher: 14 Degrees East / Bethesda Softworks
  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows
  • Metascore: 82

Fallout Tactics is a tactical computer with role-playing elements and the third iteration of the Fallout series. Fallout Tactics is not part of the official canon of the franchise but still features some elements of the previous entries of the saga. This way, it’s the first spin-off in the series.

This chapter is the first multiplayer Fallout, with a gameplay very similar to real-time strategy games. It focuses on squad-based combat and continuous turn-based gameplay taking place around bunkers and missions. In bunkers, you can obtain several services, such as mechanics, medics, and personnel yeomen.

Fallout Tactics features three modes of combat: Continuous Turn-Based (CTB), Individual Turn-Based (ITB), and Squad Turn-Based (STB). At the first, everyone can attack at the same time. The second system is like the one in the previous games. In the latter, each turn is given to a squad. The battle system also features other changes, such as the ability to change stance, modifiers, and setting sentry modes.

The character creation uses the SPECIAL system, the same you find in many Fallout Games. Still, unlike other games of the franchise, in Tactics you can choose one of the following six races:

  • Humans;
  • Super Mutants;
  • Ghouls;
  • Deathclaws;
  • Dogs;
  • Humanoid Robots.

In multiplayer, you can create squads or a person depending on how many points you can put into your selection. Players have a limited interaction with NPCs, which doesn’t take away from all the fun, but it’s an important change compared to other games of the saga. Anyway, we believe that the number 6 is a good position in this Fallout Games Ranked from Worst to Best guide.

4. Fallout 3

A survivor shoooting in Fallout 3

  • Release Date: October 31, 2008
  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks / ZeniMax Media
  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
  • Metascore: 91

Despite having the number 3 in its name, Fallout 3 is the fifth installment of the Fallout franchise if we count the two spin-offs aforementioned. Fallout 3 takes place in 2277, sixteen years after the original Fallout.

Your character comes from Vault 101, located in Washington D.C., which you leave cause your father is missing.

This chapter features an overarching story in a world where nuclear bombs have devastated the surface of Earth, and survivors have to fight to survive. People who were affected by radiation were turned into zombies and ghouls.

This Fallout introduced the first-person and third-person point of view. You can change the gender and look of your character and use skill points to improve their abilities to do certain things.

You will use guns, close-up weapons, and grenades to face enemies. You can craft new weapons or repair the old ones. There’s also armor to take less damage when wounded.

Fallout 3 is another franchise game worth playing and may be the perfect one to enter the saga. It features an immersive storyline you’ll love.

Fallout 3 Steam CD Key is available on RoyalCDKeys.

3. Fallout 2

Fallout 2 camp

  • Release Date: September 30, 1998
  • Developer: Black Isle Studios
  • Publisher: Interplay Entertainment
  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows
  • Metascore: 86

Fallout 2 is the direct sequel to the original Fallout and, just like its predecessor, a post-nuclear role-playing game. It takes place 80 years after the original Fallout.

As you may expect, Fallout 2 is very similar to Fallout in terms of gameplay, featuring turn-based combat and a computer role-playing game in an isometric view.

Fallout 2 uses the classic SPECIAL attribution system. This system involves the seven basic attributes of every character in the game: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck.

There are also 10 different skills in the game. The starting values of these skills are determined by the seven basic attributes. Every time you gain a level, you’ll be rewarded with skill points, which you can use to improve your skills. In total, there are six combat skills, eight active skills, and four passive skills.

In short, Fallout 2 is quite a challenge and the favorite of every huge fan of the franchise. Personally, this is one of our favorite Fallout games. If you’ve played it, it may provide you with a new perspective on the franchise.

Fallout 2 Steam CD Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

2. Fallout 4

A survivor and his dog in Fallout 4

  • Release Date: November 10, 2015
  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
  • Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
  • Metascore: 84

Fallout 4 takes place in the year 2287, 126 years after the original Fallout. This is one of the best games of the saga, universally acclaimed for its gameplay and storyline. Fallout 4 continues with the role-playing style of the previous games.

The plot focuses on a spouse, a Sole Survivor of Vault 111, while they look for their missing child, Shaun. It takes place around the Boston area. In their search, the survivor discovers a world ruled by a mysterious organization called the Institute.

Fallout 4 is very similar to Fallout 3 in many ways. In Fallout 3, you can switch from first to a third-person perspective. You can also manage statistics, data, maps, and items through a Pip-Boy.

Fallout 4 features hundreds of side quests to pursue and the possibility to experience the aftermath of your decisions after finishing the game. You can also have a companion with an affinity system. Crafting is also fundamental in Fallout 4 to create relevant objects.

In general, Fallout 4 is a good game. Not for nothing, it’s in number 2 of this ranking. Now let’s check the game left.

Fallout 4 Steam CD Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

1. Fallout New Vegas

A guy fighting and punching in Fallout New Vegas

  • Release Date: October 19, 2010
  • Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
  • Publisher: Bethesda Softworks / 1C Company
  • Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
  • Metascore: 84

We’ve arrived at this first place of this tier list. Fallout: New Vegas is the sixth installment of the Fallout franchise but not a direct sequel to Fallout 3, its immediate predecessor. It takes place in the year 2281 in the New California Republic, Nevada, and Utah.

The gameplay allows you to switch between the first and third-person points of view. This will provide you with a different immersive style of game which allows you to explore deeply, perfect for a single player experience.

The combat features the ability to utilize weapon iron sights and features the Damage Threshold mechanic. If an enemy has a high Damage Threshold, most weapons are ineffective. This DT will be due to high armor or a built-mechanic.

Fallout: New Vegas allows you to modify weapons by adding different parts, such as scopes, silencers, magazines, etcetera. Once you place a mod, you can’t remove it. This way, you can create unique weapons.

The SPECIAL attributes system returns. Fallout also introduced a new feature called The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System, or V.A.T.S. Thanks to this, you can pause the real-time combat and see everything in greater detail.

Karma system and Reputation are also important since they track relationships within factions and towns. A high Reputation and Karma will give your certain benefits, such as gifts.

Regarding the main storyline, this revolves around three factions that want to control New Vegas and its surroundings in the Mojave wasteland, such as Caesar’s Legion. You are the courier, a character who must deliver a package and ends up involved in the fight for control of the area.

A good game for the new generation of gamers who do not know everything about the Fallout universe. What’s more, a game with excellent graphics, gameplay, a great plot and that fulfills all today’s standards.

Fallout New Vegas Steam CD Key is available for purchase on RoyalCDKeys.

Final Words

Finally, to say that the Fallout franchise features some of the best RPGs of all time. It has become also a great mobile game in some previous iterations, like Shelter.  The entire series is pretty good in terms of gaming and storyline, of course, with some games better than others. Thus, we encourage you to try the one you prefer.
