As such, it’s hard not to feel warm in the heart and excitement when discussing the game based on this classic anime. Doraemon: Story of Seasons does not disappoint despite including mechanics that diverge from the familiar anime experience. 

Any game based on Doraemon and his friends Nobita, Suneo, and Shizuka is great from the beginning. But still, Doraemon: Story of Seasons, a completely independent chapter of the Story of Seasons franchise, is an awesome video game by its credits. 

In the first place, the visuals and animations are excellent, reminiscing the adventures of the Gadget Cat and his friends, which make you feel like you’re inside a TV show. However, Doraemon: Story of Seasons is mainly a farming sim game regardless of including secret gadgets and other elements related to the anime.

The core mechanics revolve around immersive farming activities, all while Nobita and his companions strive to discover a means of returning to their own world. Cultivating and reaping crops are essential tasks that demand your attention, alongside the quest to recover Doraemon's misplaced gadgets and unveil the hidden mysteries of Natura, the town they call home.

In a few words, Doraemon: Story of Seasons is more than a good farming game. It's a wider experience involving exploration, crafting, investigation, and an engaging plot. I recommend this game to anime fans and regulars of the genre.

One of the aspects I love most about this game is its customization system that allows you to choose anything, from the aspect of your farmer to the plot where you want to start with your operations. For such purposes, you have an initial budget to buy the piece of land, seeds, machines, and tools to work the land.

The Farming Simulator series stands out for its hyperrealistic gameplay, and chapter 22 continues with this tradition by further fine-tuning its dynamics and interactions with the environment and resources. This version includes new machinery, better visuals than its predecessor, and a better cattle-taming system.

My Time at Portia sets itself apart from most farming games with its unique narrative, immersing you in a post-apocalyptic world where only a few cells of humanity survive. One of these is the little town of Portia. In this context, you control a child son of a famous builder who inherits his dad’s old workshop. As the heir to the most wonderful constructor, your mission is to take the settlement and the life of its inhabitants to another level. 

My Time at Portia is a funny experience from the beginning, thanks to its multiple approaches and the possibility of doing whatever you want, including sowing, traversing the surroundings, looking for resources, and exploring caves for mining. This is excellent for people like me who need to feel a sense of freedom and build their path without neglecting the crops, the animal taming, the structure building, and more.

MTaP also includes other gameplay mechanics, such as creating personal relationships that can lead to romantic ties and marriage. Minigames also abound, which turns this life sim into a vast episode you must add to your gaming record.

Garden Paws draws inspiration from the beloved Harvest Moon series, embracing a visual style that elevates the gameplay into an even more enchanting adventure. This choice aligns perfectly with the fact that Garden Paws' local villagers and the surrounding creatures actively participate in your farming endeavors, creating a deeply engaging and immersive experience.

I spent a lot of time playing Garden Paws due to its vast world that offers endless possibilities; everything depended on me! I mainly focused on building up the Town of Florens, adding new structures like museums and inns. I also opened my shop, selling several items, like crops. 

Moreover, all quests and other activities in Garden Spawn flow smoothly during gaming, providing a chill affair that makes you feel you’re in a second and relaxed life.

Farmer’s Dynasty is an extraordinary game. It mixes farming activities, like growing crops or taming animals, and role-playing elements since your main character must develop their abilities to continue improving their farm’s management.  

It’s funny to mention that Farmer’s Dynasty has a similar plot to many other farming simulators on this list. You’re right: you control a city slicker who has returned to the family farm. Nothing better than the old recipe!

Let’s agree on something: the story is nothing new, and you probably will spend a lot of time repairing broken structures and refurbishing the barn and the fence before starting to farm. But, from that point, the gameplay gains a lot regarding farming and the life linked to it.

In my perspective, Farmer's Dynasty is more of a life-simulation game than just a farming simulator, which is not a flaw. Moreover, it expands the prospects of what you can do and what focuses your attention. If you prefer, you can center your attention on business and buy and sell products to develop your farm, or, on the other hand, you can raise livestock, improve facilities, and leave commodification in the background.

One of my favorite aspects of Farmer's Dynasty is its extensive open-world and realistic interactions with NPCs spread in all scenarios. Good relationships reward you with social points you can use to buy scarecrows, bee hives on your property, etcetera.   

Farmer's Dynasty entails a vast agricultural machinery, including factors and sewing machines, as well as economic skills and dynamic interactions between all the members of your community. These reasons and the ones mentioned above are enough to head and play this title!

Animal Crossing: New Horizons relieved many gamers locked at home for months during the pandemic. This title provided hours and hours of insane fun to players looking to kill time and spend days in a grateful experience with plenty of new activities.

The Animal Crossing series stands out due to its open game system and its usage of the calendar to simulate the day and night and the time through the months. In New Horizons, like all the other franchise games, you live in a town inhabited by anthropomorphic animals seeking to live a wonderful life. Consequently, New Horizons is more a life-simulation game than a farming game. However, a big part of its components is related to farming activities, through which you collect resources to start your economy moving.

In this chapter of the saga, you arrive on a tropical island, where you meet Tom Nook, a recurring raccoon in the series that will exploit you as the mayor of the new settlement. Getting resources and crafting are crucial to completing jobs imposed by Tom Nook and paying off your debt with him. 

New Horizons adds interesting new mechanics to the series, like the possibility of converting furniture and tools to decorate the interior and exterior of places and build your new life. Besides, interactions with NPCs and other players are great since you can invite friends to live with you in your house. This is why I love this game: cooperation between participants sets you in a parallel world where you create an alternative life.

All players must pay close attention to Stardew Valley since it’s considered one of the best indies of recent times. Beyond its simplicity and adorable pixel-art graphic style, Stardew Valley introduces several interesting farming mechanics. It is simply magic!

In Stardew Valley, you become the owner of a farm and ranch after your grandfather passes away, and it's your job to run the family business. But things are harsh since the farm is almost in ruin, and some characters are difficult to treat, like the corrupt mayor.

Despite its simplicity and initial simplicity, it presents a real challenge since managing time and physical energy is crucial. In my first approach to Stardew Valley, it was hard to balance these two factors, but I developed my skills over time. The title rewards constancy and planning, which is more than important in any real simulation game. Just be careful with the recollection of eggs. I never managed to win!  

This title exudes a lot of love from the developer since every farming and social activity has a particular charm and incredible depth. Moreover, there is a wide range of activities, from harvesting crops to engaging in relationships with the citizens of Pelican Town. Ah, and of course, battling is included!

Stardew Valley is strongly inspired by games I used to play as a kid, like 2003 Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town – do not confuse it with 2019 Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town –  which perfectly balances storytelling and farming. It's hard to believe anyone could play Stardew Valley for less than 100+ hours!

As the last place on this list, I want to discuss a game different from the previous ones. This is Atomicrops, a title that mixes farming simulation with a roguelite experience. The result is faster-paced gameplay where tending crops and protecting them from attackers by using weapons is the leitmotif of your days.

Atomicrops does not have a realistic approach to farming – which I like – since you control the last farm on Earth after an atomic disaster. As the protagonist, you must protect your crops from mutant plants, animals, and other bizarre creatures.  

Amoticrops makes me feel like I'm playing an action RPG, but one that requires me to take the time to sow and reap and then choose my weapon to kill everyone trying to eat my food. This is remarkably original and can be seen as the combination of Enter the Gungeon and Stardew Valley.

Upgrading and unlocking are crucial tasks you must carry out to face new challenges and purchase weapons, equipment, and items in the town. All these interactions with locals add a new layer of depth to the gameplay, which offers plenty of life simulation while trying to hold on to life.
