Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is an action-adventure open-world game published by Ubisoft. It’s the ninth major installment in Assassin’s Creed franchise, a successor to 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity.

Story and Background

In 1868, during the Industrial Revolution, Jacob and Evie Frye leave Crawley for London to aid the Assassin Brotherhood. Upon arrival, they’ve discovered the Brotherhood is gone. London is controlled by the Templars, while the Monarchy and Church lose their power. 

Ruled by the iron hand of Crawford Starrick and his seven henchmen, London has fallen. Living poor and dying young, the lower class united in protest to bring back justice to the capital of the British Empire.

The Twins have to command London’s underworld and reclaim its streets for the people to bring justice back. With the aid of historical figures such as Queen Victoria, Dickens, Darwin, and Alexander Graham Bell, they will have the necessary power to overthrow the regime.

Gameplay and Mechanics

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate brings back some of the mechanics absent in previous installments. Simple things like picking up and hiding bodies, whistling to attract attention, etc.

It’s a nod towards veterans of the series, who love to strike with the iconic Hidden Blade from the shadows. After all, you’re an Assassin, not a barbarian!

Industrial Revolution also brought new tools and gameplay features. Now you can parkour across London with Rope Launcher, hijack carriages or even engage in street races!

Two Protagonists

For the first time in the series, you can take control over two protagonists. They’re very distinct from each other with different approaches to given tasks.

On the other hand, Jacob Frye is a young and reckless Assassin, preferring open-combat and thinking on the go instead of meticulous planning. 

They are dangerous alone, but together they are a force to be reckoned with. You can switch between them on the fly when traversing around the streets of London.

Refined Combat

Combat has always been a strong selling point in Assassin’s Creed games. Fluid animations combined with various finishers are a pleasure to watch. However, it wasn’t very challenging since it was based on counterattacks and killing anyone in one hit. 

Fortunately, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate introduces a new, dynamic fighting system that combines powerful multi-kills and countermoves. Fighting groups of enemies won’t be easy since every enemy type requires a different approach. 

Use cane swords, brass knuckles, electric bombs, and more to turn the tides of battle when outnumbered. Brutal finishers serve as a cherry on top. Combine powerful multi-kills on up to four enemies at once and master the best combat system in the series.

Detailed Character Progression

Completing missions and fighting enemies grants you skill points, which are used to upgrade and expand Jacob’s and Evie’s abilities. Shape them the way you want, focusing on their innate talents. 

You can even invest in skills outside of their proficiencies to suit your playstyle. They both share experience, so you can play one over the other, and you won’t miss out on anything.

Create and Develop Your Street Gang

Jacob and Evie can’t win their battle alone. They need help to reclaim London for the people. Since there is no Brotherhood, you’re going to lead your underworld organization - The Rooks.

As a street gang leader, you have to expand your territory and fight for domination against Templar-backed Blighters. These include freeing exploited children forced to work in factories, stealing precious assets from enemy boats, and more. 

You can even rally rival gang members to your cause and infiltrate enemy strongholds to expand your territory further. Arm your gang members with guns, develop their unique skill trees, or even pay the police to turn a blind eye to your actions. 

One of the high-speed trains presented in the game works as your mobile hideout, where you can control every aspect of your street gang and check available missions.
